Murray vs.free spirit

How can you tell them apart if the bike is incomplete?

Re: Murray vs.free spirit

swingarm, the murray is a stamped thing, the freespirit is tube

there are some minor differences to the engine mount

the rear rack is different, murray is welded stamped sheetmetal where freespirit doesn't have a rack, just a big square plate behind the seat

forks, freespirit has nice puch forks murray has crappy pogo stick dingus forks...

they use similar tanks and look like the tube is bent similar but they are totally different bikes beyond that.

What about a Pinto Vs Swinger?

Re: Murray vs.free spirit

you do know that all puch tube frames are exactly the same right? the only differences is where and what stuff was welded on

Is that your Murray frame and would you be willing to part with the swing arm and shocks?

Cobra vs Magnum

Re: Murray vs.free spirit

murray suck. that's how.

but they did come with way more room for bigger tires in the rear swingarm there

and they came with 14mm carbs.

Re: Murray vs.free spirit

The Murray swing arms allow for insane tire options, and allow for wider tires than FS/Magnums. All Puch type tube frames are not exactly alike, but are not hugely different from each other either - built on the same jig so most important parts are interchangeable.

The welds on Murrays are sub-par when compared with Puch/Kromag, but Murrays do not suck - their rims are way stronger than most and are made in the U of SA. Yeah, that's my bike and no, I'm not parting it - been working on it slowly (very, very, slowly)

I've had/rode both bikes in mint shape and murry forks are better/more travel and the whole bike rode as good or better then a free spirit

Old and clapped out forks or bikes I know nothing about so if the forks were worn then ya they could suck. My forks were like inverted ebrs so opinions are like....

I do like free spirit bikes and not putting them down but Murrays at least mine was wonderful and was built very good in ohio a few counties away from me.

Mine (picture) I sold a few weeks ago now this thread mad me sad it's gone :(
