grade of gas and favorite 2cycle oil?

Julian Howard /

Hi; apologize for not doing search. In a hotel 500 miles from home on my kindle. My mechanic just texted me this question. I have a '66 AV88. What grade of gas do you use and what is your preference for a 2 cycle oil brand. Thanks all!

The Kindle doesn't allow you to search? The hell you say.

Re: grade of gas and favorite 2cycle oil?

Run the lowest octane that doesn't "ping". It's tough to buy a bad oil anymore. I use mostly Yamalube. A lot of people use Amsoil Saber. I've also used the cheep crap from the gas station. Anything you buy today will be worlds better than what was available in 1966.

100 octane w 80:1 amsoil saber. Runs my hobbit best and 20 degrees cooler than 93 octane premium.

Re: grade of gas and favorite 2cycle oil?

88 octane and Amsoil Injector at 3oz. per gallon of fuel. Ran through 50+ year old Puchs. It's a dreamy blend. Real smooth.

Re: grade of gas and favorite 2cycle oil?

You must be rich.

Re: grade of gas and favorite 2cycle oil?

91 octane ethanol free, I like castrol 2t or Hondaline.

Re: grade of gas and favorite 2cycle oil?

motul 800 / premium. it's good?

Re: grade of gas and favorite 2cycle oil?

I've had good luck with 87-octane gas and Autozone's store-brand (Coastal) 2-cycle oil. 5 years, 5000 miles per year, Tomos A55.

Re: grade of gas and favorite 2cycle oil?

anything stock compression gets 87 octane and 80:1 saber

my high compression bikes get 93 octane and 80:1 saber

Re: grade of gas and favorite 2cycle oil?

80:1? That saber is 100:1 recommended right?

Re: grade of gas and favorite 2cycle oil?

100LL AVGas and Amsoil dominator 50:1

Runs cooler, smells like blueberriess and booberries for breakfast.

Re: grade of gas and favorite 2cycle oil?

Unless you have detonation, there is no performance gain from high-octane fuel.

Re: grade of gas and favorite 2cycle oil?

Right, i can advance my timing further, and stay cooler, as well as leave 1-5 'peds for 9 months, then it starts first kick...

Re: grade of gas and favorite 2cycle oil?

I like the vintage stuff like from old abandoned cars and the like. If I can't get that I keep 87 octane on age, 4-5 years being about optimum. Throw in a couple of mothballs and McColough chainsaw oil and I am good to go

Do you prefer a metal barrel or an oak cask for aging, Snord?
