Advice on copper fuel line...

I have been researching the idea of using a 1/4" copper hardline w/ in-line petcock & filter for my Trac. I've read mixed reviews on the subject so need to know what y'all advise!

Pros:

- looks clean & classy

- easy to hide... No tubes hanging everywhere

- no tubes coming loose

Cons:

- needs regular upkeep... Tarnishes quickly

- vibrations of tank and engine can shake tubing loose

- have to figure out a way to mount to the carb hmm...

What do y'all think?

Re: Advice on copper fuel line...

why not use 1/4" brake line? Or maybe you like the copper look better? They also have black coated brake line.

Re: Advice on copper fuel line...

it'd be really hard not to crease the hose when you route it, and its a lot more expensive than normal fuel line.

Re: Advice on copper fuel line...

I like the old school, classy look of the copper lines. And as far as creasing it I would be using a tubing bender so that shouldnt be an issue.

I use soft drawn copper for oil furnaces as well as refrigeration line. Gasoline would not be a problem. However, any kind of fitting, either flare or compression can be quite bulky, making it difficult to bend in such a small distance between petcock and carburetor.

Re: Advice on copper fuel line...

I use 3/16" copper fuel pipes on Solexes all the time...no problems at all. They don't crack like the originals, and don't break like the newer Hungarian pipes.

Well I have about a foot+ between the tank and carb.

Thanks...ill look into.this option as we'll.

Re: Advice on copper fuel line...

Use a short section of rubber hose where it connects to the petcock and carburetor. You can use cloth covered hose and bailing wire instead of hose clamps for a vintage look. It'll also give you a bit of vibration dampening.

Exactly what I needed to know! Awesome! Thank you!

Also...anyone else ever do this that may have a pic or two???

Re: Advice on copper fuel line...

Hmm saw this on my el camino looked half decent actually. I'll check around and see if i have a picture of where it meet the carb. I believe it was double flared but i really can't remember was a few years back. once again not a barbed fitting. but just from being a plumber, add a little hear and slide it over the petcock barbs. If done right should NEVER come off, to much heat or not enough and you fucked it all up. but this would make it a hard line so vibrations might cause failure.

are you fucking retarded? vibration will split the line, cause a leak and result in an engine fire within a week.

There's a reason you don't see copper lines used for fuel and brake lines on vehicles.

Quit being such a fucking noob and get a life you stupid buttwad.
