New Two Stroke Engines

Tptwo Tptwotwo /

The 2-stroke is NOT dead.

"Mercury OptiMax, Evinrude E-TEC, Nissan TLDI and Yamaha HPDI engines are all direct-injected, yet each brand boasts a proprietary method for shooting a plume of vaporized fuel directly into the combustion chamber. What they share in common is the way high-pressure injection shatters the fuel charge into micron-size droplets exposing a greater surface area to oxygen."

It is said that the Merc has the lowest emissions in the U.S. and because oil is injected directed onto moving parts no 'fogging' for winter storage is needed.

Now all we need in North America is a population of ecology-minded people who want 150 mpg mopeds.

Not likely to happen, Americans love their SUV's too damn much.

What they share in common is they are outboard boat motors , something that millions of Americans are willing to go out and pay big bucks for , unlike mopeds .

Too bad most Americans think 2 stroke is horrible for the earth.

Re: New Two Stroke Engines

ultrasonic nozzles! that's how to do it!

it's similar to how octopi shoot ink as a defense mechanism. it's amazing what we can learn from nature.

Re: New Two Stroke Engines

It's hardly new technology. There were direct injected two strokes in the 1950's. Both Piaggio and Aprillia have had built 50cc scooters based on this system. The technology is there, the market isn't.

I guess you don't understand what "no" means.

hahaha

man when I was a freshman, the amount of eco-nazi shit i would get for having a moped at a liberal arts college was hilarious... and yet no one thinks twice about someone bringing a car to campus to get around.

Re: New Two Stroke Engines

sorry, mopeds are dead. They have been for decades. scooters are better in every way. They have great storage, they are more comfortable, and more reliable. the 4 stroke engine provides a wide power band that can deal with hills as well as flats. It is also efficient and clean running, not to mention smooth. 2 stroke is at it's best running a constant RPM, making them great for industrial and marine applications.

mopeds were cheap disposable vehicles that somebody forgot to throw out.

what makes mopeds great are their riders that have made something out of them. There is an art to building a reliable and good performing machine from discarded junk. we are neither the problem nor the solution. At our best we show the world that we can build something better with our own hands. At our worst, we are really noisy and kinda smelly. Build, ride and love...perfect you're craft. This is no revolution, but a form of expression.

Re: New Two Stroke Engines

americans do not love their suv's too much. its not 2006 anymore brah. No suv has been on the 10 best selling cars for all of 2012.

Alright then, still probably isn't going to happen, Americans aren't interested in mopeds or scooters much, if at all.

Mopeds may be dead, but I honestly don't think scooters are any better, as another poster said on here, "you sit on them like girls pee".

Re: New Two Stroke Engines

yes yes, all mopeds and scooters suck. lets all buy road kings and convert them to e-bikes.

Whoever does that deserves a sledgehammer to the nuts.

Aren't you busy enough replying to your own threads?

Re: New Two Stroke Engines

if you think scooters aren't any more alive than mopeds are, you obviously haven't been to a small town or a college town. Gainesville and charleston are filled with scooters.

Theres also like a billion scooter brands currently selling scooters and MAYBE two brands selling mopeds in the US, tomos being one.

Re: New Two Stroke Engines

News for you, the Mythbusters tested the emissions from the cleanest of today's motorcylces vs. the cleanest of cars and found that even a modern motorcycle engine puts out much more pollutants than a car engine. Yes, the motorcylce used less fuel, but the fuel usage reduction did not translate into less emissions. Moped engines are far from even the cleanest motorcycle enignes, when it comes to emissions.

Personally, I don't give a shit. Ride your moped all the way to the bank with the great fuel economy compared to the car drivers. But don't try to justify that a moped has lower pollution than a car.

Mopeds are FAR better than scooters in every way. Mopeds are hugely popular in nations were people have brains instead of dollar signs.

Re: New Two Stroke Engines

Mythbusters is just a tv show for entertainment, they've been proven wrong before. If you look at the big picture you could easily argue that mopeds are much more efficient than cars. Sure most of us aren't riding mopeds to save the planet but they aren't as damaging as some people would like to have you believe. Even electric bikes powered by coal fired powerplants aren't "clean", it's just a little detail that is overlooked.
