Do you need to replace the exhaust gasket each time you take a pipe off?

I know this sounds like a really stupid question but i was just wondering since i am planing on painting my exhaust and am going to be taking it off. I justreplaced the gasket on about 2 weeks ago and was wondering if i could get away with just taking the exhaust off and putting it back with the same gasket? Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks

depends on what bike and what gasket you used.

crush type you might get two or three uses out of it if you're lucky

paper/rubber type, use it till it leaks

crush/rebound type might be able to reuse it once

i have gotten away with re using a copper crush ring type by using some permatex ultra black on both sides of the gasket and mating surfaces on cylinder/pipe. make sure you clean off all oil with brake cleaner and let it cure for at least 24 hours.
