HPI CDI programing...

Hi all,

I post as Zombie on Kymco Forum, http://www.kymcoforum.com/index.php?PHPSESSID=a4b8qh3fo4qeeifsfu3hiji3r5& ; and Scooter Invasion. http://www.scooterinvasion.net/forum/

I am also a member here from 3 or so years ago but cannot remember the account. It is most likely just plain Zombie.

The reason I am posting is I recently purchased an HPI inner rotor kit w/ programmable one curve cdi. I installed the TuneBox 4 software/driver on XP pro sp3. I can open/manipulate the program but nothing saves. I cannot save a new project to the computer or to the cdi. The program goes as far as "get data" where it is supposed to talk to the cdi, and report on the make/specs of the cdi but does not read the cdi. Instead I get an error message stating "check the usb connection". Does anyone have any experience with setting this up, or maybe has seen this issue? There is a Pict of the bike it is going in on my info page It's an '05 ZX 50 that I am anticipating high 80's if not low 90's mph. I have some threads on the other forums if anyone wants to see the picts of the latest build as it is progressing.

I'm NOT trying to spam my build here. It's just most of the google searches for info on the cdi lead to you. I'm glad I found the forum once more because I have read a few of the recent posts, and feel I can help out some here as I try to do at the other forums. Especially the creep that has been stealing parts/money, and hurting the reputation of the crew he was riding with. Someone drag that fagots ass to the local cop shop, and beat his ass in front of the cops till he fesses up. Don't let a rotten F like that near you!

Sorry bout the babble... I hope someone can help w/ the cdi, and I always pay it forward. Thanks Z~

Downhill Harvey (OFMC) /

That's one ugly mutt.

Re: HPI CDI programing...

It's a pretty puppy. I have five that are just like him. They are real sweet. I'll let them know you say hi...

Re: HPI CDI programing...

yo its cool, your pc points are probably dirty. just run a little bit of sand paper between each cpu core.

Re: HPI CDI programing...

I tried that, as well as re gapping the ram. Neither worked. I thought maybe the video card was low on gear oil so I doused that with 75w-90, and it is still the same.

There are so few posts on this cdi, and I am having a hell of a time getting HPI to respond to my emails. It sucks using a 400.00 set up as a paper weight.

Thanks for the advice tho... That may work for someone else.

Re: HPI CDI programing...

Fourth day with no reply from HPI. I tried another computer running Vista and still a no go. This is turning into a bad review for HPI. I am posted on a couple other forums as I said, and No one has a clue on these sets.

Maybe I should have gotten the MSD...

Re: HPI CDI programing...

I don't have the software so I can't really tell you to much. Have you tried running it in vmware or virtualpc with a clean install to negate any potential device conflicts?

Re: HPI CDI programing...

I have no idea what they are. Is it something similar to sandboxie?

I will google/get/install one of them to try. Thank you for the idea!

Re: HPI CDI programing...

Never used sandboxie, but it's a virtualization program to emulate a PC.

Re: HPI CDI programing...

https://my.vmware.com/web/vmware/downloads That site has too many options for me... I'll try the other.

Re: HPI CDI programing...

VMWare workstation or server would suffice.

Re: HPI CDI programing...

I'll try it. The other virtualpc is no longer available. The link dies. It appears that 2007 was the last year for xp installer... I know nothing about programing but greatly appreciate your help.

Re: HPI CDI programing...

are you running windows firewall if so turn it off. i had a problem with dyno-jets software for my 4wheeler. i had to run it as admin turn off firewall and run with win 98 compatibility.

Re: HPI CDI programing...

I'll be trying all this shit to get my Tunebox software going...all of it.

Re: HPI CDI programing...

I appreciate the idea. I have tried all the compatibility options in windows, as well as shutting down all my security. I tried to run it sandboxed as well. Still a no go.

Re: HPI CDI programing...

Is yours the same issue? Mine wont save/send/get data. I'll add a link to this thread in my next email to HPI.

Re: HPI CDI programing...

This time Willy from HPI emailed me, and stated he was replacing the interface/cdi for me... The wait begins again... I will post up the results.

Re: HPI CDI programing...

now we wait...

Re: HPI CDI programing...

I was on the computer from 3am till 7:30am today with Bart from HPI. He sent ma some files to try... An un-installer for the driver in TuneBox 4, and a pre release version of TB 5. Unfortunately it is still a no go. So they are shipping a new PRE tested cdi on Monday (its already Saturday late evening for them). The first kit arrived in 4 days so I expect Fri-Sat of this week. Have no worries that I will return with the results. I can email the new version of TuneBox to anyone who would like it. This version is Win64 compatible, and there is a driver uninstaller that comes along with. The issues they have had with programing up to now has been the third party drivers for the chip. They have asked the manufacturer of the chip for THEIR driver to distribute with all TB5 software. It's avail now. The files are renamed to .cxc instead of .exe so they can be emailed. You will have to rename them to .exe's for them to run.

I hope this thread helps someone Post or PM me as I have this thread set to email on replies. Keep scootin' Z

Re: HPI CDI programing...

I am curious to know what kind of engine setup you're building to get those kinds of speeds. I'm not familiar with the engine in those so I must assume it's either Piaggio Zip or Minarelli h2o horizontal, or a copy of either. And I'll go ahead and assume you are building either an MHR, Team Cris, or Polini Evo engine with it with all the bells and whistles.

Re: HPI CDI programing...

It is a vertical sc10as Kymco. The original Dio engine (af18). The parts list is everything except the OEM wheels. It is basically a stroked/case and jug ported Polini Corsa. It is geared down from 10.3:1 to a final 6.1:1 drive. The 60mph sdeedo was off the dial at 10k rpm (actual 73mph@10krpm). It's a new build, and the issue is the EGT would hit 1200*f at 10.5krpm so I opted for the HPI inner rotor Ign w/ their programmable cdi.The OEM Suitai cdi stays at 23*BTDC at 10k. I need to drop that timing to run thru the hot egts so I can get into the pipe/jug at 12krpm, and bring the timing back up thru overrev to 15krpm. There is no other way to gain the rpm needed except to dump the timing at critical temp., and put it back in after the hot spot is passed. http://www.kymcoforum.com/index.php?topic=6494.0 That is the build. It's a LONG thread, and we tend to get a bit juvinal over there sometimes so there is a lot of Bs'ing, and some of the listed parts have changed/developed. At the last stages of the thread so far I have been posting the picts. of the fiberglass body mods/new paint scheme/frame mods/custom built glass parts, and fabrication methods. It's not a tech thread but I hit the hi points. The engine build is going to be posted up in the next 4-5 days. After dialing it in I intend to get a certified high speed run over 90mph, and get an entry to the Motor Scooter International Land Speed Federation during Labor Day week. It's about the 4-5th build on this bike so I had LOADS of practice getting this far with it.

Check out my link, and our forum. It's pretty fuckin cool!
