JCPenney Pinto Moped HP

Michael Bojanowski /

Hey everyone I have a 1977 Pinto moped, I am trying to figure out the horse power, I know this moped came in 3 versions the base model the swinger, the middle model the pinto and the top model the Pinto2, it also was available in 3 horse powers 1HP 1.5HP and 2HP, do you think thats how it was, the base came with the 1HP the middle model came with 1.5HP and the top model came with 2HP ???? I want to get a bigger main jet for mine so I would like to know the HP, unless there is another way to determine the horse power. Thanks!!

Re: JCPenney Pinto Moped HP

if you riding at 25, you have 1.5hp.

Re: JCPenney Pinto Moped HP

they were all 2hp, but check your front sprocket, if its 14 tooth then it came from ohio and they did that to limit the speed. if its 15 you have other problems

It does have a 14 tooth sprocket, so it has a 2HP motor on it? then why does all the information I read say the pinto came in 3 different horse powers? Is there a way to put a larger front sprocket on it to make it faster?

Yeah bro there is a way to do it. Aquire one from a friend or online, treatland.tv 1977moped.com or ebay.com and than install it

Re: JCPenney Pinto Moped HP

pipe intake carb. as long as you have a big eough port size... but you might as well pull the engine rebuild it with new bearings seals and a race crank and put a kit on it... seriously wish I had just done that last year instead of burning a whole season chasing 5 mph
