Tomos Snail Cams Axle Adjusment Fix

Some of you might have had the same problem as I with the snail cams not wanting to stay put. Having to use a vice grip to stop one side and maybe hitting one with a mallot to adjust.

I ordered a set of axle adjusters off ebay

http://www.ebay.com/itm/CHAIN-ADJUSTERS-NOS-Speedway-Vintage-Mini-Bike-/120789776120

and after playing with both installed decided to just use one on the chain side. Leaving a snail cam on the right side of the bike.

100% easier! No slippage of either side. I had a sleeve I cut down and used the second nut from the second adjuster as a lock nut. (edited)

Thanks for the tip. I ordered a set for my Tomos Revival. Looks like a great item at a fraction of other adjusters on the market.

They claimed there were only six available when I ordered. Any of you thinking of the item had better check it out now.

Re: Tomos Snail Cams Axle Adjusment Fix

yup those things never stay put. why just one?

Re: Tomos Snail Cams Axle Adjusment Fix

They're much cheaper if you get them from treatland btw. Saves you the trouble of worrying about limited quantities too.

Re: Tomos Snail Cams Axle Adjusment Fix

I liked using one cam just to help keep it in place. But since writing the above and taking a ride, I wanted to adjust it once more and the damn snail still wanted to move. So I put both ebay adjusters on to test. Haven't ridden it yet.

Re: Tomos Snail Cams Axle Adjusment Fix

Just as an obvious note I shortened the adjusters. And you might need a sleeve of some kind to push the nut back as the threads are pretty much dead on to the end of the swing arm.

And I couldn't find an extra nut that fit the adjusters- not sure threading size.

On treats the ones that come with the back ends look cheaper and aren't solid all the way around. The ones that are don't come with the back pieces so IDK. All good either way.

Re: Tomos Snail Cams Axle Adjusment Fix

this is like common sense guys. come on really?

only works on wide robot swingarms too

Re: Tomos Snail Cams Axle Adjusment Fix

magnum adjusters, not new...

Re: Tomos Snail Cams Axle Adjusment Fix

Maybe not but I haven't found any info on adjusters for Revivals which I own. Just people having trouble with snail cams.

Re: Tomos Snail Cams Axle Adjusment Fix

tighten your nuts and you wont have such issues

Re: Tomos Snail Cams Axle Adjusment Fix

For those interested finally I'll say I tried using both adjusters and it was just easier using one adjuster and one snail cam as I originally posted with the eyelet adjuster on the chain side. Still much improvement over using both cams.

Thanks for the update. I'll follow your suggestion when I receive the part.

I, too, have found the snails a pain in the arse. I use needle-nose lock pliers when adjusting and never get it right on the first try. All this while resting on my elbows, laying prone alongside my bike in the driveway.

BTW, I have learned to prop up my back wheel off the ground with an 11 x 2 PVC pipe. It works so well I carry one on the Revival, as a case for my folding air pump.

Re: Tomos Snail Cams Axle Adjusment Fix

You'd think after so many years Tomos has been in business it wouldn't be such a 'pain' to do!
