My gas tank smells like clean

Trevor "Scraps" Arms /

......well not really, it smells like vinegar and bb's right now, but it'll smell like clean once i'm done getting the rust out of it. Anybody else ever use vinegar and bb's to get rid of rust? Any tips?

Re: My gas tank smells like clean

Let it sit for a couple of days. Works wonders without eating away the steel.

did you use steel bb's or copper?

Count your bb's, bet some don't come out but lodge in the corners and cause future problems.

Re: My gas tank smells like clean

i use one of those retractable pointers with a magnetic end to fish out lodged ones, it's kind of tricky. some tanks are better shaped for this than others.

like hobbit tanks?

Re: My gas tank smells like clean

Its more fun to just run it rusty and see what happens. :)

Re: My gas tank smells like clean

Yeah i have a similar problem with my tank.

I might sound stupid here but when you say BB's are we talking about the air rifle pellets?

Re: My gas tank smells like clean

You should learn to use the google machine. A BB is not a pellet.

Re: My gas tank smells like clean

Oh sorry then what BB's are you talking about?

Butterfinger BBs

Use bigger ball bearings, like marble size. Normal bb's can get stuck in corners and creases of the tank and can be extremely difficult to get out. A magnet may not even help in getting them out. Don't use gravel, either because the sharp edges of the pieces will also get lodged in the corners and creases.

Dude, forget bb's. Pellets would be even worse. Read above posts. Carry on.

Re: My gas tank smells like clean

pellets would be good. Just think about it... leaded gas!

Ha ha this thread

Re: My gas tank smells like clean

tumbling media.

Re: My gas tank smells like clean

i used vinegar and salt mixture...took a few days but the results were spiffy...didn't use bb's, steel marbles or anything like that because i can't hold the bike up and shake it...i reached down in the tank with a long handled bottle washer to remove the softened rust

anyway worked for me...neutralize the vinegar with a baking soda/water bath, spray down the inside with some wd-40 fill 'er up and keep it filled up for awhile so you don't flash rust..
