Motobecane running like crap..wont pick up speed cuts out, sputters, etc video attached

Here is a video showing the problem I have been having with my motobecane 50V. When given throttle it seems to sputter and not pick up speed. Below is a link to the video explaining what I have done to try and remedy the problem and shows what the moped is doing. I am at my wits end...need help, please.

Rebuild time, change your spi seals.

what else should be replaced? What makes you think it needs a rebuild?

Re: Motobecane running like crap..wont pick up speed cuts out, sputters, etc video attached

What's the plug gap you are running? Mobys like a super tiny one...like .018in But yeah...maybe the seals are bad in it. Mine started leaking, but my idle was fine...just ran weak up to 30mph...and the plug was getting white

Change out the condenser for a external one, replace the bonding strap with a longer one from coil to carb stud instead of the swivel mount.

Index points points 0,35 - 0,40mm (.013-.016 inch) then set to 1,5mm BTDC instead of 2,0 BTDC.

Clean the exhause and the exhause port.

Did you take off the exhaust and look at the exhaust port itself? Is it all crusty? I think it is also time for you to drop the motor and pop the top end off. The head might be completely crusted over, and maybe your rings. If the rings are crusted over then they are not floating anymore, and then you will have blow-by (no compression). It might idle OK but have no power with crusted over rings or completely crusted exhaust port.

Also, cleaning the carb - is the fuel delivery completely free-flowing the whole time, throughout the whole circuit? I would just replace your old fuel line completely if it is more than a few years old. Did you put the float on upside down when you put the carb back together? The needle point goes up.

It sounds prudent to perform the ignition work recommended above.

You should routinely be de-coking (removing the deposits) the piston, exhaust port and exhaust.

Perform a compression test. 90-110 would be considered marginal and suggesting need for top end work. anything below 100 demands it. Low compression readings.

Performing a leak down test or leak testing would be diagnostic for seal leakage.

Caleb,

Mine was doing the exact same thing and was making me lose my mind! I decided to buy a new condenser from Treats for $10 and now my ped runs solid! Change the condenser and I'm sure you'll be a happy human.
