Newb Questions Thread (newbs feel free to ask your own)

Michael Dreamboat /

Recent member here, and even using the search function there are some things I can't find, probably because the questions are so incredibly simple/stupid that there was never a need to discuss them.

1. Low handlebars

Is this purely aesthetic or is there a positive performance bonus out of it as well? If not, is there anything about low handlebars that would cause negative performance issues?

Looking through search, I didn't find anything besides cosmetic debates on the issue, and the only thing on the net I could find was that cafe racers used these handlebars for less wind resistance? Is that it as far as performance?

Pros, cons?

Damnit!!!

Re: Newb Questions Thread (newbs feel free to ask your own)

It's the old story~Wind vs you sitting up makes for drag aka wind resistance that slows you down ,thus by using lower bars you reduse drag wich makes for more speed and gas milage !~ you are now streamlined more or less .

Re: Newb Questions Thread (newbs feel free to ask your own)

Ok so put on a hat, then run 100 yards, then take it off and run back, can you tell if there is a difference?

Well, there is, probably, but its minuscule, and that's about the performance gain you can expect if all you do is get low rise bars..

Gotcha. Minimal performance upgrade, but possibly kickass cosmetic upgrade.

Fellow newbs might find this video useful as well

Get in full tuck and gps your bike. Then gps it sitting up. There should be about 2-5 mph difference. (Depending on top speed, and gearing)

They will help you get lower easier. I feel more in control with lower bars.

also you can throw the bike left/ right a lot easier. so i like them for that. not that mopeds are hard to change directions on. but on a heavier bike they do give a nice light feel to the bike.

Will rain mess up any of the exposed wires or the engine or anything? Haven't got a cover yet.

Re: Newb Questions Thread (newbs feel free to ask your own)

rain is worse on the carb then the wires. put a plastic bag over the air filter or something if its gonna sit out for a bit. if you have a plastic air box then no worries. either way its really not a huge deal if your ped gets a little rain on it.

I can stay with the kitted boys in a full tuck. At least 5mph for me.

Glenn, I have Allstate insurance. It's about $75-$100 per year.

What do you call the piece that you put the bulbs in inside the tail light? Like this

Is the entire thing called the assembly? I just need the actual curved parts inside that that the bulbs go in. Mine's all cracked up around the bulbs making keeping a bulb in impossible.

Re: Newb Questions Thread (newbs feel free to ask your own)

technically its called a refeactor... but you cannot buy those seperate

Damn. They are out of the one that closest matches my own on treats. might have to get a different one. Thanks man.

Will superglue do the trick for piecing together cracked refeactor? Kind of on a budget here, and no one has my exact taillight anyways

question no 17

When you aren't carrying around a gas can to do the premix shake, but you do have your 2stroke oil in your bag, is it cool to add gas first from the pump and then pour the 2 stroke in after, directly into your tank?

I'm assuming once you start riding a little after it kind of mixes up in there.

Re: Newb Questions Thread (newbs feel free to ask your own)

How the fuck do I get this spring back in the carborator?

Re: Newb Questions Thread (newbs feel free to ask your own)

Answer to # 17: you can 1: add oil first if you know how much gas you are going to add and the gas will mix up with the oil as it splashes in. Or 2: add gas, add oil, install gas cap and shake bike back and forth between your legs for 30 seconds or so.

Re: Newb Questions Thread (newbs feel free to ask your own)

I have a 77-79 puch maxi i think. What gas should i use?

Re: Newb Questions Thread (newbs feel free to ask your own)

Take Me Home Kev /

James regular unleaded gas is fine, make sure you use a good quality 2 stroke oil too. And you can find out what year your maxi is by looking at the plate on the frame behind the petcock.

Re: Newb Questions Thread (newbs feel free to ask your own)

so i can use the same gas i use for my two stroke dirt bikes? 93 octane with racing 2 stroke oil at 36:1 ratio.

Re: Newb Questions Thread (newbs feel free to ask your own)

Take Me Home Kev /

The mix should be like 40:1 or 50:1. If the bike is stock you're good to use 87 octane. If you have a performance ped throw 89 in that biatch.

Re: Newb Questions Thread (newbs feel free to ask your own)

Shut your petcock off when mixxing in the tank. I like to start the bike and almost let the float bowl drain before turning the petcock back on.

WHY IS THE SKY BLUE?HEY ITS A NEWBIE FORUM

Re: Newb Questions Thread (newbs feel free to ask your own)

To mix the oil in the gas real good and so 100% oil does not go in your carb.
