Moped Culture

Hey guys just sort of a culture question. What is sort of associated with mopeds? I mean, i guess its sort of hard to classify it in one category, but define moped culture. Like scooter culture is that whole Mod Vs. Rocker thing from the 60's, and they sorta have a punk scene going on, but for me it feels like mopeds are sorta Mod affiliated too, like they have some punk, rebel feel to them.

So I'm just wondering, what kind of music/ style/ cultural aspects do you feel identify moped culture?

associated to any type of music?

Re: Moped Culture

whatever type you like.. its not like it used to be where everyone does the same thing.. now its just a bunch of cool peeps hanging together sharing parts drinking and just having a good time.. less hating and more partying these days

Re: Moped Culture

Whatever the opposite of a yellow helmet mohawk is, that is moped culture. Also getting your hands dirty and working on your own shit (constantly).

the culture varies from gang to gang to rider to rider. Moped culture is what we make it...there is no stereotype set that we all trend with. only common themes you see are what were said early...mopeds, friends, fun, and wrenching

Nick, here's a short film with some insights:

And another look at the 'culture,' perhaps a little tongue-in-cheek:

Re: Moped Culture

One thing I get a lot from quite a few people is being called a hipster, and they call MA that too. So I guess that could be the 'stereotype' that people who are not into mopeds think of us as.

Re: Moped Culture

Lol...well there a lot of "hipsters" that ride but then again a lot of other folks that ride too. But I think the hipster image is being coming the stereotype. lol

Re: Moped Culture

I think that's just because it's "hipsters" that won't shut the fuck up about how awesomely vintage and unique it is to ride their mopeds around town, lol. Makes it so people never get around to actually seeing what moped culture really is, they just see the loud outer crust of it.

^Isn't that IRONIC? lol

Re: Moped Culture

Re: Moped Culture

Moped culture to me is beer, moped riding/wrenching, and meeting other people that do the same. Beer not so much with the younger folk(<21yo) but they are cool. Not to mention you meet interesting people that you'd normally wouldn't meet. (edited)

I am 18, so beer is not in the question yet, but how is it for younger folk? Not seen as a burden? Assuming these younger folk aren't stupid assholes.

yea he is right.. usually the younger generation are either stupid assholes, girl jean wearing hipsters, or both.. if you are a likable fellow who is into mopeds then just be yourself and you will fit in.. unless you wear a mohawk.
