junk
All mopeds are junk.
That's why buyers bitch about their prices.
In before "been out since....".
I know where "Sha 14:12" (catchy handle) is coming from. The modern day mopeds just give me some kind of "cheap" feeling....sorry yes even the tomos. this new bike looks strong...but who knows. a morini engine on a 35 yeard old bike is certainly not junk. wasn;t then, isn't now. The expression "they just dont make them like they used to" certainly applies to mopeds. Atleast thast how i feel.
that goes for moped and vacuum cleaners. I mean there is nothing like a vintage Electrolux. And lawn mowers? Lawn-boy all the way.
china's iron is higher in carbon and that makes the steel more brittle then us/europe's. they just dont take a beating the way the old ones do
Not legal as a moped in Ohio.
Need motorcycle endorsement, insurance, more expensive plate ,
If I need all that to drive a china junk bike I'll get a Harley
My lawn boy with a Tecumseh motor blew up on me last summer, it was a 1987 (i think) and was used commercially from start to finish, was a great mower but nothing beats my '83 honda mower, still leaves the lawns looking great.
On the moped side, i would never buy a new moped or really any moped made after 89, and i too dislike new tomos, old tomos was/is the shit! Puch and Minarelli FTW!
I'd just like to get my hands on one of those pedal engines for something like this:

zalgo?
The fit and finish on the Lazer 5 s is poor, the bike is very slow, the castings poor, the user manual a joke and there is no service manual. The warrenty is pretty meager. There is no parts supply (the chinese manufacturers ship bikes, but dont supply spare parts.).
4t piece of shit.
Somebody should bolt an e50 with a metra on there & drop those bars, and then throw on some gazelles and then Vrooooooooooom! Who's up for a challenge?
from what I've seen ,Putts never went anyplace save here, and they just keep going and going and ETC !nuff said !!
I just seen it online. I like its buil, like the manumatic transmission and larger tank and four stroke. I still would want it. I emailed them about.
4 stroke = not a moped in California
sucks to be you, then. anything <50cc & 35mph is a moped in VA.

I don't understand the disappointment with Tomos; the frames are virtually the same as from way back when, the front fork is way better, the bottom end of the engine is the same as what they've had ever since the A35's were made, top end is better looking and easier to make fast. They last a long time. Yeah, there's plastic, but it's just trim and you can take it off. Price is higher, but prices of everything are going up, and always have been : (
Here's a question for everybody -- what's available as a new moped, scooter, or whatever, that represents a good value in terms of price, quality, durability, and performance?
a little googling found the engines on Tboltsusa. I think I know what I'll be building this summer.

Have you seen these: Franco Morini Engines
??
many times. 3x the price and almost always out of stock. I'm not made of money. (edited)

Except Gazelles suck. There are so many better tires out now. The Gazelles are heavy and don't handle we'll. Try the Hedinou K56.

Not really. Suck fart 4T engines are heavy, noisy in a non-cool way, smell awful when they burn oil (which they do when the valves go), are a hassle to upgrade, etc.

Yuck.

Thats because Cali is stupid with vehicles. Yet happens to be the usa's car custom world. That itself is astounding.
to be fair, most of California's really lame vehicle laws came about because of the 70's gas crisis. before that, it was pretty much anything goes.
I agree with Steve Mertz.I think the new Tomos are a good deal and in terms of price, quality, durability, and performance they are excellent.A new Sprint for just over a 1000 dollars. It will last a long time with proper care.A junk Chinese scooter around 700 and will not last long.Parts???. Build a basket case moped cost a bit of money and your time.Building is a good value and I have done this with my bikes, but I am one who loves to ride not wrench. Now with prices rising on used bikes the Sprint is a great value for many years of enjoyment. There know for running for 15000 miles with out much work.I just cannot believe more people don't buy them.I hope to buy one this year. Also pull the plastic and see the same 70's frame and with a few up grades.I have seen others here on this site make the new bikes very cool.

WRONG.
" A "motorized bicycle" or "moped" is any two-wheeled or
three-wheeled device having fully operative pedals for propulsion by
human power, or having no pedals if powered solely by electrical
energy, and an automatic transmission and a motor which produces less
than 2 gross brake horsepower and is capable of propelling the
device at a maximum speed of not more than 30 miles per hour on level
ground. "
Where in there does it say it must be two stroke? You must be under 2 bhp and 30mph. That's all.
