When I found my 72 Ciao the inside of the brake drum had some rust on the inner surface. I tried to sand it smooth with emery paper and it looks pretty good but I get a lot of squeeking when I apply the brakes. I've taken the glossy surface off the shoe pads. Is there a way to polish the drum so it doesn't squeek.bruce
Have you tried to spray brake cleaner in there?
About the only cure is to replace the linings, they get cystlized, but go with O.E.M. origenal, or you ask for trouble. Doug D. PS> Mopedwarehouse.com carries a good selection.

Brake cleaner is aerosol yes. Dirty brakes will squeek! Definately don't put any kind of lub in your brake hub! That would be very bad, as far as stopping goes. :)
