NC50 Resurrected

I found this old girl on Craig's list back in June and thought it would be a fun project. The guy told me it was only good for parts. Now that I have it all together and running, I was thinking of stripping it down and having it painted.

Re: NC50 Resurrected

Ebay has the old decals foir this, Im in the process of re-painting my NC50, Already got the tank done and put the decals on it. So far the tank looks brandy-new.

I considered doing it myself, but I thought for the size of it and if I removed all the paint myself, I could have it done on the cheap. I even considered powder coating, but I don't think you can do that with steel. What kind of paint did you use?

Re: NC50 Resurrected

Looks pretty good as is, what is wrong with it? Starter spring?

Re: NC50 Resurrected

Steel is pretty much the only thing you would consider powder coating.

Nothing wrong with it now. I did start in the transmission area. The last person to reassemble it, did it wrong. I was going to convert it to a kick start, but the spring start still works. The return spring is weak though. Evrything functions good except for the rear left turn signal. A break in the wire, they are pretty frayed. I also need a rear fender. I've put about 30 or so miles on it ptting around the neighborhood so I'll be ready to a tag here for it soon.

Re: NC50 Resurrected

Cool that it runs well, try buy/sell forum for fender. I would leave it be if it were mine, seen way rougher examples! Enjoy!

Re: NC50 Resurrected

Concerning a do it yourself paint job, I don't agree.

Unless you're a Pro yourself and you have compressor with a paint gun (and a dust free room), you should definitely have it done by a paint shop.

I've had it done myself and my bike looks like a million bucks.

(of course, a pro job will cost $150)

Ok, strip it, sand it, prepare it yourself, but don't paint it yourself.

Perfect job = 1 base coat, 2 coats of metallic car/motorcycle paint, 1 coat of clear coat.

It's ultimately a question of budget.

Thats kinda what I was thinking. The previous owner sprayed it some awful teal colour. The white in the middle was me shooting some primer on it because I was sanding the paint to see how hard it was to remove. Living near the beach it did not take long to show some surface rust.
