Pedal Arm Removal??

I let my cousin ride my moped the other day but she panicked and hit the gas and hit a tree. (To make a long story short) The 'ped is fine except for one little thing. The pedals seem to have turned..so they are both up or down at the same time. On the left side..the pin that holds the pedal to the pedal arm has popped out a bit..I cant figure out how to remove it. Can anyone help please??

Thanks

RE: Pedal Arm Removal??

use a hammer, and something hard and pointy, like a chisel, and awl or a philips screwdriver.

Wont that ruin the screw thingie??

RE: Pedal Arm Removal??

the pins are tappered and threaded at the end...not threaded all the way. (the threads hold on a nut that keep the pin from falling out...that is really all they do.

...so unless you dont take the nut off or try and mess things up,, you should be ok.

RE: Pedal Arm Removal??

I recently had to remove the padal arm from my moped. The pin was really stuck, and I had to band as hard as I could with a hammer for 15 minutes to get it out. It did end up messing up the threads on the pin and bent it a little, but I was still able to use it again.

RE: Pedal Arm Removal??

What you do is unscrew the nut until the very end of the pin, so that the end of the pin threads are covered by the nut, then bang away. the nut protects the threads.

If the pin gets damaged, you can get one at a bicycle shop. Better yet go to your local library and find a good bicycle repair manual like Sincere's (usually in the reference section) and see what it says about removing this type of pedal pin.
