Driving in the state of Maryland.

The government can be very ridiculous. First, we should be able to receive a moped license and be able to get that once we are 14 and are tested. I am very responsible and already passed a permit test. I am fourteen. I drive tractors and golf carts and study driving. i think differently than most people. The government doesnt bother to make exceptions. they are afraid of law suites and don;t want any stress. You call that responsible!? Take some risks! Life is a game of chess, not checkers.

Re: Driving in the state of Maryland.

Your 1st. Post is a rant.

Its 15yr old. Wait a year. Build your engine and learn something in the mean time. Cheers.

Re: Driving in the state of Maryland.

We don't need 14 year olds with drivers' licenses. So ride your moped anyway. I did. Don't get caught.

So because you can drive a tractor and a golf cart we are supposed to let you loose on the streets on a moped? There is a big difference in driving a golf cart and dodging traffic on two wheels. Believe me I know how dangerous riding with cars that don't pay attention. You think you have it all figured out, most teenagers do. Grow up and quit your bitching. If you ask me you should be 18 before allowed to drive and I wish that I had to wait that long. All of my auto accidents happened when I was 16-17 because teenagers are not ready for the responsibility, maybe you are but the rest of teens are not.

So wait the year out till you can get your license, it is really not that long of a time

Re: Driving in the state of Maryland.

Let me tell you all this.I am responcible. i can drive. you havnt seen me. period the end. and just because i am young doesnt mean i am not capable of driving. dont be so judgemental and learn a bit

Re: Driving in the state of Maryland.

im not saying everyone who is 14. i am saying for them to make exceptions for a FEW younger people who are capable and responcible enough to.

Re: Driving in the state of Maryland.

and wrong, i dont drink nor withh eveer smoke. PERIOD

Re: Driving in the state of Maryland.

Re: Driving in the state of Maryland.

good one, people r so ignorant to except the truth. a few younger people are capable of greater things .

Re: Driving in the state of Maryland.

The last thing maryland needs is 14 year old whippin around in cars/mopeds legally. You might be a great driver but you would be 1 in thousands. I can't believe how bad people can drive....I though LA drivers were the worst but DC/NOVA drivers have them beat hands down.

Re: Driving in the state of Maryland.

dude. patience. you keep talking about how responsible you are. thats cool. but unfortunately thats just the way it is with the licensee laws. I hate the MVA as much as you. I've been fucked by them who knows how many times. but there are limits for a reason. sure maybe YOU can responsibly ride your moped. and maybe it wouldn't be a problem. but if they are "making exceptions for a few people" and there is going to be a way that any 14 year old that can get through the loopholes gets to ride a vehicle around. then thats not good. Imagine some of the more... how shall I say.. douchebagy kids you go to school with (I'm sure you can think of one or two) riding mopeds around in York rd traffic trying to be cool. then I hit them in my car and their parents over in Hunt Valley sue me for all I'm worth. it sucks. but there is a reason most of these laws are in place. if you are in a rural area and are just riding around a farm, then ride whatever you want. nobody is going to bother you. but when you start riding on public roads it different. look, you seem like a smart kid. buy a bike. rip apart the engine. learn it inside out. make it go fast. by then you will probably be able to get your license.

Re: Driving in the state of Maryland.

HEY GUYS DWAYNE HOSTER CHIMING IN! MAKE SURE TO FOLLOW ALL YOUR STATE AND FEDERAL LAWS! ITS THE LAW! CHIMING OUT!

Re: Driving in the state of Maryland.

Ranting about you age is stupid.

Just wait and ride the bicycle a couple more months.

Make sure you wear a helmet.

Re: Driving in the state of Maryland.

I got my Md. motorcycle license when I was 14 back when the law allowed ya to. Couldn't get a car license at 14 though. Hmmm

My son started driving peds at 14 with no license of course. Now he's 17, legal and a great rider.

Re: Driving in the state of Maryland.

wow, i'm impressed.

quick, move out of mom's and dad's now, while you still know everything.

people will recognise your greatness, and step aside so you can advance through life faster.

my 9 year old daughter wants a cell phone, she sure knows how to talk on one.

my 16 year old has brought licensing up, my reply: 1. financial responsibility, 2. it's a process, she's set the goal. 3. wait, she will LIVE LONGER.

fact: the leading cause of death of 15 to 20 year olds is motor vehicle crashes

you wrote "i think differently than most people."

aberrant thinking further damages your case, by my standards.

did it ever occur to you you're not the only driver on the road?

experienced drivers get caught in unexpected situations, there lies the difference, when you speak of "ignorance"

you deliberately ignore (ignorance) your learning potential over the next 2 years as if it was immaterial.

rather then see you join the other lepidoptera on the grill of some semi, go look up G.D.L. and present your point based on facts, not "i want"

feel free to post a qualified reply, unless you expect to impress with your grammar, spelling, and "period the end."

Re: Driving in the state of Maryland.

yes, i would agree 100% honestly. i realize the danger. and based on my knowledge i am willing to take that risk to drive locally aaround my neighborhood. that it. im too young for major roads. and its too far of a walk for where i have to work. It is not right to rely on people to drive me everywhere. you have to agree with that. personally i dont thinking wanting to drive a moped local at 14 is immature, nor will i in the future.

Ohios moped age "14"

south carolinas "12"

bermuda "as long as your safe"

maryland "16"

Re: Driving in the state of Maryland.

yeah, do you see what i am trying to say? thanks :) you actually agree

Re: Driving in the state of Maryland.

i hav to wait 2 years. i am not ranting about my age. i am stating the facts. some people are capable of great things. you cant judge unless you have seen them. so dont comment unless you know me and has seen me drive.

Re: Driving in the state of Maryland.

freedom of speech

Re: Driving in the state of Maryland.

i want be be able to drive local with a moped, york road, thts hell. and wrong, because even if i did but in engine in it, they woulnt allow me to ride it.

Re: Driving in the state of Maryland.

ik there is lots of bad drivers out there. but i bet you i am not a great driver, but an ok passing driver. but thts the thing, people judge too quick. everyone has facts, and opinions. no one is perfect. dumb things happen to good people for no reason. it is terrifying. just like driving, it is not a game. something small for driving local like a moped wouldnt hurt. but guess who says no. the quick thinkers. you hav to think about it and observe the facts. everyone is different. if one 14 year old crashes it doesnt mean everyone with. thts why they need to test thos non accident drivers. and allow them to drive on safe roads. but still, people cant go out of there way to do so. and if you comment and say "rambling young bitch" or some excuse like tht, ur just kidding from the facts, just saying

Re: Driving in the state of Maryland.

and its too far of a walk for where i have to work. It is not right to rely on people to drive me everywhere.

both valid points.

consider the obverse, there are a ton of crappy 20-30 yr old* drivers that shouldn't have a license, ever.

the biggest point is somewhere, someone feels responsible for you.

i have 6 kids, i know how "they" feel.

i was serious about the graduated licensing, eases you into responsible driving. experience comes from bad judgement, plain and simple.

or plan a trip to Ohio, grab a license there, drive on that for 2 years.

and i'm sorry, yes, someone is going to try and stop you.

*and older, i'm sure

Re: Driving in the state of Maryland.

ik. people too quick to judge on anything. and maryland to ohio, my parents wouldnt allow tht. i will not stop convincing people about driving local, never. and thanks. but you might think you know how they feel. but you wont ever know unless you are them. how old r they?

Re: Driving in the state of Maryland.

I work with a 16yr old that has been driving a scooter without a license for 2 years. He wears a fullface motorcycle helmet and drives the way we are supposed to. He has never been puled over.

Re: Driving in the state of Maryland.

nice advocacy buzz, i call that a "not yet"

ever think what the dmv will do to the future license status if caught driving?

revoked until you're 18 isn't an excessive, nor unusual penalty

MD has some of the laxest moped laws in the states.

no trip to the dmv

no helmets ( over 21 )

no insurance

no inspections

no emissions

any road under 55 mph

the financial ease of riding is part of the allure of ped ownership to me

i'm all for promoting mopeds and riding.

i consider myself an enthusiast, collector, and wrench.

and i've been pulled over 2 or 3 times in the last 2 seasons. no tickets

Re: Driving in the state of Maryland.

So why bash Md. laws??? Most other states are the same way.

You are 14 which IS too young you to have a license no matter how mature/good of a driver you think you are. You might be a good driver but 99% ofthe other 14 year olds aren't..

do you think they should let you drink alcohol as well??? Just wait until you are the proper age like the rest of us had to do.

On a side note I was able to get my license before I was 16 (I think 15 and 9 months). I'm not sure if Md. still allows you to do this or not but it's worth checking into.
