Hey Don-NY questions about your gyro

I am assuming that is your Gyro on e-bay. Did you get it running good? If you did I plan on Bidding on it. That is just too cool looking not to try to get. I knew you had gotten a lot of parts for it but I don't think I ever heard how it was running.

also I have never used forward air, Isn't that the service where you pick up your stuff at the airport? It's no big deal if it is just wondering?

Thanks

Andy

Re: Hey Don-NY questions about your gyro

Andy, In all honesty it still has a problem. I will have it worked out long before the auction ends though. After its maiden voyage yesterday I had to bring it back inside my "garage" (spare bedroom) to work out a bug.

The bug - It starts and idles perfectly but when applying throttle it basically just revs a little higher, bogs and barely moves even without me on it.

When I did all the work to it I did absolutely nothing to the carb internals, reed valve or gasoline lines to the carb. I figured those part of it were good to go. Eveidently I was wrong. I did buy and install a new auto choke ($53!) and an air filter element but there is still something I've oevrlooked. i can keep you updated if you like. Just email me at don_ny_@hotmail.com in a few days.

Re: Hey Don-NY questions about your gyro

Thanks Don I will e-mail you in a few days to hear how its going. I went ahead and bid but will be curious how it turns out!

Thanks again

Andy

Re: Hey Don-NY questions about your gyro

Will do Andy. I won't ship it out until it's running 100%.

Re: Hey Don-NY questions about your gyro

Andy, It's all set! I got some advice from Doug Simpson. He said to fully clean the carb and reed valves. I felt this was the problem too since it was one of the only things I didn't touch earlier.

I did all that and didn't see anything dirty or obviously wrong. So the carb has now been fully disassembled and cleaned.

Just for the heck of it I put my thumb over the small exhaust outlet while it was running and felt almost no outward pressure. I took it off and tried to blow through it. The ehxaust was so plugged up I could barely blow through it! I guess after 12.9K miles the carbon can really build up inside there! I held it against the tub faucet with really hot water (OW!!!) and had a friend tap on the backside of it with a hammer. Big chunks of rock like carbon started coming out and lots of goopy oily black stuff. Yeah, in the tub! Gross. After about 1/2 of this the water finally started coming out the smaller end like a fountain ...like it should have been in the first place. I need to test ride it tomorrow but I'm absolutely certain this was the problem.

Re: Hey Don-NY questions about your gyro

WooHoo!!!!! I took it out for her maiden voyage this morning and am amazed at how well it runs and goes! It's so fun! I rode the 250 elite yesterday and then this 50cc gyro today. A big difference between the two but both are fun in their own ways. I went 25 mph easily on it but didn't want to over burden the new top end so I didn't push it. I am pretty sure it will go 30-35 after the break in period.

Re: Hey Don-NY questions about your gyro

I just got my '85 gyro Thusday 2/14. I was wondering where you found parts. I desperatly need a new choke cable and set of gaskets.
