I think it's recommended to be 20W non-detergent or 30W ND.Do a search and you'll come up with it,I'd say.
i read 30w matao.
Here is a copy of a post I made a couple of weeks ago regarding this....Hope it helps:
< I have a 1980 Garelli Sport. It still has the original decals on the tank and the <bottom one says:
Engine: Garelli 50cc.
Breaking in Period: First 600 Miles do not exceed 20 mph max. speed. Mixture: 5 oz. oil per gallon of gas (25:1)
Thereafter: 4 oz. oil per gallon of gas (32:1)
Note: In the fuel mixture employ FIAT MOTO 2T oil or any good quality oil for two stroke engines.
For the gearchange assembly employ FIAT VS+30 (SAE 30W) oil.
That's good info. Steve, and all I'm sayin' is you can substitute 20w in cold weather. It actually is better for the `ped to do this if it's parked in the cold..Easier on starter mechanism, you know. But if you wanna run straight 30w and you have a heated garage and don't park it all day in the cold it would be o.k.,I guess.Oh,and that's probably old info. on the mix ratio. The recent oils will usually run fine at 40:1.The old 2-cycle oil needed a heavier ratio.I run 40:1 or a little less and have no problems with Pennzoil Marine synthetic from Wal-Mart.
Thanks for the info Don. That's a big help to me. I haven't gotten a manual for mine yet (has been ordered though) so the decals on the tank are all I have to go on.
BTW : The SAE30w that I used said nothing about being detergent or non-detergent, what are my concerns here?
Well,I would opt for Non-detergent in the tranny.Just `cause I'm not too familiar with Garellis.I use detergent 10w30 Exxon synthetic in my Minarelli(has a wet clutch) in the winter and have had no problems. But if that Garelli has that rubber washer between it's clutch,I'd stick to non-detergent 20 in winter and 30 in spring and summer. That won't swell the rubber. There are better Garelli people than me on this forum if they'll answer you. There's also a link to Garelli on this site, but I don't know vwhat it covers.Just go to `resources',then `links',and scroll down to the Garelli site listed.A trick I use in severe weather is to hang a `trouble light' next the tranny a couple hours before I take a ride, making sure there's no chance of gas leaking onto it,of course. This warms the tranny and makes for easyt startups.
sweet, thanks guys
Where can you find this kind of tranny fluid we have called places and cant find it. And another thing when we do find it will it say tranny oil. Its just that im used to hearing 10w30 or 10w40 meaning moter oil. I take it that they also make tranny fluid that way to. In my tomos it takes ATF dextron tranny fluid thats why im asking. Thanks. Walker
Man I have looked every where for that 20 w and cant find it i called every auto store in the phone book every motercycle store and still no luck i even asked for the30 w still nothing any suggestions where did you get yours?
I picked up `Coastal' brand at Auto-Zone once.It says ND(non-detergent) on it.Other than that,NAPA will have some.
Thanks don ohio im going to check that out right now .
Yep!Hope you locate it!

Hey don ohio i dont know if you noticed this post i put it in the wrong place.Oh and i called napa ,auto zone and many others. When i call auto stores they act like they never heard of it before. The reason i copyed this is because i was wondering about the moter oil question. Thanks again
Oh,Walker, you don't call it transmission fluid. You ask for 20W non-detergent motor oil. That's your scarcity problem.
So it is motor oil, and not tranny fluid. Interesting.
cool thanks again yall
It's like they use certain motor oils in hydraulic systems,Crisis!Like Marathon Multi-Power III doubles as a hydraulic fluid in some large equipment.(:^)
sweet, we are gettin that today thanks don
Hey went to auto zone and they did have non detergent w 30.
But no 20 w so i guess the 30 w is going to have to do.
Thanks again and again and again. Don Ohio
You're welcome,Man! `Ped `til yer red!!
