There are some Tomos gurus around here that know much more about the bike in question. A bike that old may have A-30 power as opposed to A-35 power (sorry Ree if I got the designations wrong!) The motors are distinguished by the shape of the cylinder and head. The old motor design has a small, octagonal shaped cylinder; later models have a much larger square shaped cylinder. Its still 50cc but has more cooling fin surface area. The old motors run fine but are less modifiable from what I understand. The one I had (A-30) would do a solid 30 mph after a top end job and de-coking the exhaust ports. I also polished the port with a dremel tool and a soft honing stone.
