motobecane clutch......

How the hell do I get the clutch off of a 1970 motobecane???? Im trying to rip the motor down to change all the gaskets and check out the clutch AND THE DAM THING WONT COME OFF. I been pulling, prying and yanking for days now and it wont budge. Is there anything else holding that thing on besides the bolt???

Thanks for any help!!! PAmatt

You need a puller. It screws into the internal threads in the flywheel and has a smaller bolt in the center to press on the crankshaft.

This wouldnt happen to be a 1975 would it?

I'm having the same problem and I can't get either hub off? Whats a puller and where do I get it? Kurt

Kurt,

I would try some of the vendors in the resources section for a puller.

The magneto flywheel, on the right hand side, can be removed with an impact wrench. Use a 3/8 drive to turn it and keep in mind that it is a left hand thread.

Re: motobecane clutch......

Can you get the flywheel off? If you can get that of then you should be able to leave the clutch on. The clutch was stuck on my 77 motebecane and i could still take the moter almost completely apart to put all new gaskets and rings and other things on. Remember that the flywheel nut is reverse thread. I ruined one because i tried to turn it counter clockwise to get it off with an air wrench and i got it so tight that i had to grind it off.
