The cold sucks

I hate the cold...It's getting sooo cold up here in jersey...I'm fighting it, but I can't find/afford gloves for my fingers. The best thing I could find were half gloves.

Re: The cold sucks

Hey,KOLD ! I use a common pair of winter driving gloves(thinsulate)and line the insides of them when it's real cold with a pair of plain brown cotton work gloves I keep in the backpack.Just put the brown gloves on and then slip into the leather insulated gloves. But I know I sound like a broken record when I say that the best cold-stopper is a windshield.Stops most rocks too,and road salt! I suppose you could get a pair of heavy skiing gloves instead of the leather type.Stay warm and well-fed, KOLD !!

Re: The cold sucks

It gets pretty cold in colorado, I'll tell you my secret. Silk long johns. REI sells them for about 25 bucks (tops & bottoms). You can also get silk glove liners, which work very good. BUT, silk underneath will only keep you warm if on top you are wearing windproof material.

Re: Prevent Hypothermia

Here's a trick from Buzz Walneck of Walneck's Calssic Motorcycle Trader:

When he would get caught by a surprise cold snap in Chicago, he'd put newspapers inside the front of his jacket. The idea here is to protect your vital organs from losing critical heat. It could save your life!

Re: Prevent Hypothermia

The `homeless' unfortunates know that one too,Jim!Sad to say. Also,it makes you crinkle when you walk and gives you something to read when you get home.

Re: The cold sucks

We have been having some cold days here in Carroll County too. Im all decked out with the gloves and 2 pairs of socks. I have a windsheild but its not on my ped. I think it makes it look funny. And my stupid ass even funnier when im on it. It came on my puch maxi when i got it. But im prob gonna put it on my Trac. Someone should invent a heated suit that runs of 6 volts..............

Later guys,

Re: The cold sucks

I live in Minnesota and it is pretty cold out here. I wear a good pair of driving golves, a winter jacket, a pair of snowboading goggles for eye protection, and I have a big Harly Davison windsheild that I duck behind. And I am still pretty cold

Re: Prevent Hypothermia

hi all, has anyone found anything else out on a ski suit, or something to keep warm? hey don have you got any idea if handybikes still has windshields?? thanks........

Re: The cold sucks

I'm in Jersey too..... I find that I can wear any kind of warm bulky glove on my left hand but need something thinner on the right hand to keep enough dexterity to use the throttle/brake.

On my right hand I was using a knit glove with a rubber lab glove over top to stop the wind....

This weekend JC Penny is having 25% off their gloves, so I got some Thinsulate gloves that were not bulky....I will also be using a silk glove liner underneath them so I should be ok...

Wish I had a windshield for the upcoming road salt though...

Re: The cold sucks

jersey rider here as well. A pair of leather gloves from Wilson's keeps me warm. The cold rain is also annoying, but I live with it as my moped is my daily driver.

Re: The cold sucks

Hi,Paul,Jimmy, and Wisky! Paul,I was up to Handy Bikes today and they have no windshields until spring. However,Akron Moped has a shield I'll tell you about when I receive it.I ordered one a week or so ago from them.I think they are a smaller windshield but were only 40 bucks or so.JC Whitney's High visibility shield looks good to me.Good tip on Penney's Jimmy! Say,Wisky! How far is a trip on your moped as a daily rider? When I put on my thinsulates(leather),I'm all right for 10 miles or so.Then the hands start to get colder say below 40 degrees, and I have to put on my cotton brown work gloves in addition. And all 3 of you guys would LOVE a windshield!

Re: The cold sucks

A windshield eh? Not a bad idea. I seen a bunch of JC Whitney ones, but they all are for bigger bikes.

Well, my daily commute is most harsh in the morning, main roads = traffic. I would say about 5 miles. Then afternoon is school - work, very pleasnt ride. Going home at night usually is pretty cold, but since I am awake and not tired (like the morning), I can takle the cold no-problem.

before I invest in a windshield, I need to get some new tires, 5000 on the clock ,and still ridin on the same damn slicks the tomos targa has.

Re: The cold sucks

Okay,Wisky! Did you see Ike's post about cheap Cheng Shing tires?Whale of a good price! Also,I think that one `High Visibility' windshield at JC Whitney will fit a ped alright. But I could be wrong. It really resembles my `WindFoiler' shield that fits my Sebring perfectly.I'll let you know what this cheap one's like when I receive it from AKRON Moped.

Re: The cold sucks

thanks don
