Targa, or Targa LX

Brock Zurcher /

<HTML> Which does everyone consider better? the targa ot the LX. I currently have a 1977 Sachs P1, but its getting a little(understatement) old. I talked my parents into buying me a new 'ped but can't decide which one to get! I like the LX because it looks cool and comes in black, but i like the targa standard because it is light, but still have the accesories such as oil injection. I was wondering what the top speed of both bikes are and how they climb hills (probably much better than my single speed sachs). Also, i have dirtbikes so the higher center of gravity of the LX wouldn't be a big deal.</HTML>

RE: Targa, or Targa LX

<HTML>the targa and targa lx both go about 35-38 top when stock. the weight difference between the two of them is so small, that the targa really wont accelerate that much quicker than the targa lx. the preformance of them are about equal. the only real difference is that the targa isnt a top tank like the targa lx. so if you got the extra money, and you really like the top tank, i would get the targa lx</HTML>

<HTML>Here is my own preference.

If you want to save money get the Plain Old Targa. They have the EXACT same engine and top speed. If you want faster take off take the LX though since it has a 2 speed tranny (auto). The plain Targa MIGHT have one, but I dont think so - cant recall for sure. The only shop in Tucson that sells Mopeds was where I saw them, and I liked the plain targa better (both in looks, and price). The one thing I never understood about Tomos, was the Special Edition moped. Why? The only difference between it and the LX was tires, and a few pieces of trim. Kind of a waste. Anyway - Mechanicly the difference between LX and Plain is the tranny, and pick up speed (as well as price). Also you can get the LX as a NOPED - without pedals and with pegs.

<HTML>Incorrect. Both have exactly the same engine- the A5 series. Check out

<HTML>I have known all about the specs. since before i made this post, I just wanted to know what everones opinion on the individual models with looks handeling an how the targa's in general (either model) did at hill climbing. Just so you know (if your not sure) the targa and the LX have the same exact engine and tranny. It is the A35 (not the A5,I think that is on the colibri).</HTML>

RE: Targa, or Targa LX

twowheelers /

<HTML>Wrong again. Factory name of the engine (as well as Colibri moped) is A5. The old engine (and moped) was A3. The A35 is the name of the moped model which is a combination of the A3 frame and A5 engine. I told you to check the page.</HTML>

RE: Targa, or Targa LX

Brock Zurcher /

<HTML>No, dumbass. The A35 is an engine model. Don't believe me go here: http://conk.com/marquee/sites/sachs/A35.jpg

I scanned that 10 min. ago and got it from my local moped dealer (Akron Moped) Friday.

RE: Targa, or Targa LX

Brock Zurcher /

<HTML>Oh, also at the top of the specifications on the Targa, Sprint, and Targa LX it says "A35 ENGINE (exclusive Tomos design)" If you don't believe me i can scan that too.</HTML>

RE: Targa, or Targa LX

twowheelers /

<HTML>Look YOU. I don't care about your scanned pictures. Who are you going to believe, a piece of paper or a person who's been in the Tomos factory in Koper, Slovenia 3 feet from the production line where these engines along with Sachs engines are assembled. Would you like some pictures?

P.S. Who are you calling a dumbass?</HTML>

RE: Targa, or Targa LX

Brock Zurcher /

<HTML>First of all, the paper was from tomos, their website says that they use the A35 engine in all of the American sold Tomos mopeds. I will believe the peice of paper from the Tomos America branch is South Carolina over a persons word anyday.

P.S. I am calling you a dumbass

</HTML>

I also sent and e-mail...

Brock Zurcher /

<HTML>Also, i sent and e-mail to tomos of america asking which engine it was to settle this.</HTML>

RE: I also sent and e-mail...

twowheelers /

<HTML>Cool, I asked the technical director at Tomos Koper what the engine was. It's an A5. If you don't believe me, check out the cylinder on the engine. There's an inscription on it the clearly says "A5".

Tomos Products US is not a part of the Tomos Group of companies.

P.S. Temper, temper.</HTML>

boys boys boys

<HTML>geez guys this is a neutral-friendly moped help/information resource not a place to duke it out through keystrokes over who might know more. and besides... they're mopeds. remember? the x>50cc 30 mph bicycle looking things. not quite the best thing to be belligerent and bitchy about. if ya had a disagreement fine but ya had to go and insult each other and in the process you just made fools of yerself. at least that's my objective perspective. wheeeeeeeeeeeeeee

dave</HTML>

I agree

twowheelers /

<HTML>I completely agree with you Dave. I post a verified information and get called a dumbass.

Long live USA.</HTML>

RE: I agree

Brock Zurcher /

After coming back a few months later and reading it over, I can't believe how big of an idiot I made of myself over something so small and pointless.

RE: Targa, or Targa LX

The tomos line is exactly the same mechanic ly all the way from the sprint right up to the lx. And yes they both have the same tranny.

TARGA

Adam Matton /

I have a 1995 Tomos Targa Stepthru model, and I would definately recommend it. It has the same features as a scooter with the traditional moped styling. As far as the top tank models, (TTLX) most people would not purchase them because for only a couple hundred more, you could get a scooter. Targa runs about $1250.00 at most stores and is well worth it. I would reccomend the pedal start over the kickstart model.
