new mopeds

Hi guys

A few more questions on my mission to choose a new moped. I am looking for a new ped and would like to stay in approx 1000.00 or less. I would like a 2 speed that has the ability to have the performance add-ons (not really looking for higher top speed just better acceleration and hill performance) I have narrowed to a few choices and wanted some opinions on each. Here goes

1 kinetic magnum- leaning away from this, hard to find someone who actually can get one lots of places have tfr but can't get magnum also worried about quality

2 tomos sprint- in the lead right now there is a dealer in IN that i can pick up from parts are avail etc.

3 puch turbo sport- just saw this today at http://www.fiveflagsmotorbikes.com/moped.htm looks good will all of these "speed" kits I see for puch peds fit this? anybody have one

4 garelli auto power- same website has these I guess they are garelli? What about mods? anybody have one?

If I had the money I would just buy a revival and be done with it!!! Those just look too cool. All for only 1700 right.

any input would be appreciated. sorry for being so long, just undecided and will be ready to buy in a week or so

Thanks

Andy

Re: new mopeds

Get a used puch or tomos for 4 or 5 hundred and use the rest for your upgrade kit it'll be 3 or 400 more

Re: new mopeds

I've been looking for a new machine as well. You should see my recent thread regarding "New Moped Thread" I posted several pics of new mopeds.

The Puch turbo sport is a hella nice machine.

I'm leaning toward that or a Tomos. Almost everyone has had good luck with them.....

The "Pandas" are hot too--- neat bikes.

Re: new mopeds

I have thought about that but I can't find any good used peds locally. I have looked on e-bay and used peds tend to either be junk (which I already have) or as nearly as much as a new one. Buying on e-bay then involves shipping (usually higher than a dealer) and you may end up paying 500-600 for a used moped that ends up being not much better than what i have!!! All of the local mopeds that I have found tend to be beat up and non working. They mostly tend to have scooters as well. Not many tomos or puch around here that i can find. So unless I run into a good used ped locally I decided to look into new ones.

Re: new mopeds

Hey if you're in bloomington, Indiana let me know, I am to. I own a Targa Lx. Maybe we could get together and do some riding.

Re: new mopeds

Close, I live in Bedford used to live near Bloomington. I need to get a ped before I could go riding though. I don't have one thats road worthy right now.

How do you like your targa lx?

Re: new mopeds

i actually think buying new mopeds is good. if mopeds are going to make a comeback, we're going to have to start buying them. let the manufacturers know what we want. then we can hope they make them. i'm going to email bianchi again right now!

Re: new mopeds

I like my targa just fine. I broke mine in on plenty of country hills and roads. It did a final 42mph with all stock parts on it after the break-in period. I put the bi-turbo on it and it does about 48-50mph now and it doesn't bog down the least. The carbs on a tomos aren't the best they need a good cleaning every now and then but it's a very dependable model and easy to fix when something is wrong.

Re: new mopeds

Hi,Andy! If you're a big guy(over 6'0" ),you might want to go for the Avanti line, although I'm holding off on one until they satisfy me on their trannies.I don't think the `Autopower' has the `lock-up'problem like some of the `Supersports'.Ask Ivan on this forum about the `Stinger' or `Autopower'.They are definitely for bigger people. The Tomos is fine, but just a little small for my needs. If you're of average size, they would do fine. The long-legged type though needs the Avanti for maximum comfort.IMHO,that is.

Re: new mopeds

hi don, i am looking for new, soon also. im 6' 3"tall. is the avanti the biggest, strongest out there that you know of ?? ive never seen the targa in person ( nothing where i live at all ), but it looks big in pics.

Re: new mopeds

I'm glad you said`that you know of',Paul,`cause I don't pretend to know `em all and their sizes. But of the new ones, the Autopower and other Avantis are the biggest to my knowledge. Now,in the used dept.,the old Motobecane was really a big, tough bike. But at 6'3" I'd definitely be looking at the Autopower or if you wanna take a chance on the Stinger or Supersport(unexplained tranny problems that could just be isolated cases),they're big too.The Tomos' I own and have seen are just barely big enough for me(230lbs.and a little over 6'),and they're not as supple feeling as my old Sebrings.Sitting on a Tomos I feel lower to the ground.Just find a dealer close by and test-ride one of each if they'll let you.I forgot where you live?

Re: new mopeds

See my post on top of the Avanti list. Talk to this man......
