Need advice whether to buy

Hi folks

I have been driving past three mopeds with "For Sale" signs by the roadside in front of a farm. I knocked on the door, he wants to sell the three together very cheap. They are a Garelli, Puch, and Tomos, all in miserable condition. I'm not sure whether i've stumbled on a money pit, or something good? It was dusk when I fumbled around with them. I listened mostly for the "cuussh" sound of engine compression. The electronics (coil, wiring etc.) might be non-existent. At least one has no rear wheel.My question, should I snap these up and hope to find the parts, or is this just a headache waiting to happen? Thanks.

All three are respectable brands, I say go ahead and snag them. The tomos and the puch will be easy to find parts for, and the garelli shouldn't be too bad to find parts for. Even if one or two won't run, you can always sell them for parts.

Like Vespalands question. The whole deal would revolve around the price. If you can get them for a song and a dance then it would be a great buy if even just for the parts. If he wants 250 each and none of them run then you might want to (away from the deal). try to get a look at them in the daylight and peg him down on a price. If all of them have compression and most of their parts then you might could sell the parts off of one of the bikes to get the other two running or even trade some parts. If its cheap enough then the worst you could get was a good learning experience on how to get them running. Messing with them could make for a fun winters project. Nothing is more rewarding than tooling around town on something that you rebuilt yourself!!

You know, I was thinking about it and you wouldn't have posted the question if you really didn't want them. go ahead and buy them. Worst case is that you will have them up for sale and maybe if you sold them one at a time, you could get more money.

BUY BUY BUY. Thats what we are programmed to do near Christmas anyway.

I have any part you need for the Puch and most for the Tomos and a few Garelli!

New and used! Reasonable!!!

pay no more than $50 for each bike. but it all depends on you ... garelli is easy to find parts for. puch even easier. tomos something in the middle i think. save those mopeds from a certain death!

Hey.. you might also want to just ask him if he minds you looknig at them.... bring a wrench and take out the plug.. see if you got spark and compresion... you can worry about gas later...

But you might find that one or two are total screwed.. might be why he has three of them... probly got them to make one out of and didn't have much luck.. especialy if two seem stripped down and one seems fairly complete. Also check out the seller.. talk to him.. find out where he got them or why by asking if he knows about there history.. if there isn't history then you know whats up.

But heck like the others said.. if you cared enough to stop and then even more to write us you should probly get them.
