Moped won't run unless accellerating

<HTML>I have an old 1980 Garelli. I've got it running fine exept it only runs when i'm accellerating on the throtle. As soon as I let go of the throtle it stops running. If you can help please e-mail me. Thanks.

<HTML>It seems like you're losing compression so check your pistonsprings. You'll probably need new ones, and don't forget to use new gaskets.</HTML>

<HTML>Also you might have a bad plug or it could be that your choke is not hooked up correctly, i had the same problem on my puch.</HTML>

RE: Moped won't run unless accellerating

<HTML>what you might want to look at is a complete cleaning of the carb., the idle circut/orifice is cloged with rust/gas varnish & other nasty crud. If its running fine when you open the throttle up you DO NOT have a compression problem, the engines not getting any gas.</HTML>

RE: Moped won't run unless accellerating

i have worked on many garellis and it sounds like your clutch might be swollen. does it idle ok on the stand with the wheel moving?

RE: Moped won't run unless accellerating

Sounds like a clogged Idle cuircit in the carb to me. Also try posting this in the repair form, you might get alot more advice over there. Anyway I would just do a really good carb cleaning and check to make sure all passages are clean before you reassemble it. Good Luck

WRONG FORUM FUCK FACE!

motomatic has a bike in the shop right now with the same problem. the carb is forward facing and it was ran with no air filter or fender forever, i took the top end apart and there's tons of scoring and big ol grooves in the cylinder, and i was picking rocks out of the head.

anyway, it's probably clutch, idle circuit or no compression. everyone else already said that.

try a new plug, then check for bad seals. timing being off can cause it too.
