Modifying Bi-Turbo Pipes for an Avanti

Hey, does anyone know if it's possible or practical to modify a bi-turbo pipe to fit an Avanti Supersport?

Re: Modifying Bi-Turbo Pipes for an Avanti

Yeah, one of those guys,Dave I,I think, put a speed kit on his Supersport. So he probably knows how.And Ivan seems to know something about Avanti also.

Doesn't the supersport already have an expansion pipe exhaust? I don't think a biturbo would give you much of an advantage being that it's not designed for the bike and the stock pipe is.

HEY,VANILLADOG !!

Hey,X-Brand! I just went to moped2.org and looked up DaveI's old posts about the mods to his Supersport. He states the exhaust is pretty restrictive.Vanilladog is supposed to have checked out a performance kit that might fit the Supersport.Maybe he'll respond to this post if he's watching.

Re: Modifying Bi-Turbo Pipes for an Avanti

I saw a web sight that had a fellow show how to modify a Bi Turbo pipe to fit an original exhaust for an Avanti or a Garelli I cannot remember which. I'll look and see if I saved the web sight.

The sight showed how he cut the pipe from the BiTurbo and the original stock muffler. (That would mean that you would no longer have an original stock pipe and that you would really be screwed if you did it wrong)

You might wend an email to steves mopeds, I think that they installed a cylinder kit and new pipe for someone. Check on moped2.org

Re: Modifying Bi-Turbo Pipes for an Avanti

one way you could do it is cut a biturbo about 4 inches in front of the exspansion chamber and make 2 more cuts on the end of the pipe you cut off 180 degrees from each other. the you have to put it onto the header pipe that is on the supersport then you have to figure out where the bracket to hold your biturbo on has to be welded. then you must take the back of the biturbo and the back of the stock muffler and have the bracket cut from the stock and welded onto the biturbo. all and all this for say 2-3 miles an hour more is pretty expensive but it will sound cooler.

another thing you could do is order the performence kit from polini for the garelli vip which has the same cylinder as avanti. i think its 65cc and comes with a larger inlet pipe. there may be a perf muffler there too but i forget

Re: Modifying Bi-Turbo Pipes for an Avanti

Thats pretty much what the guy on the web page I was talking about did.

I cannot find his page. Does anyone else know where it is. The fellow that I am talking about also made sterling engines and had a few links on his page to buy metal stock. I just thought it might help to see the pictures of how he did it. He used a piece of the pipe that he cut off to make an adapter for the two pipes.

Doesn't the sport model already have an expansion chamber on the exhaust?

You may end up not gaining much at all with the BiTurbo pipe. I would however take the muffler off and look to see how closely the exhaust matches the outlet of the cylinder. Some of the pipes actually close the hole a little to reduce the power of your moped so that they can get the 2hp or less mark.
