Mopeds today

Ahra Majniu /

Hey!

I'm from Europe, and unfortunately there are not so many mopeds on the streets.

My questions are:

-Are mopeds still fabricated?

-If yes, do they still have pedals?(coz I read somewhere that newer one dont have any)

-Is it possible to put an oil injection system into an older engine?

Sorry if the questions are dumb, but I recently got into mopeds, and dont know too much about them yet.

Re: Mopeds today

depends where in europe ... there are mopeds still about. some have pedals, some do not. i know that kinetic, avanti, and derbi still make mopeds w/ pedals. i think puch might also. oh, so does babeta. tomos also makes some w/ pedals ... i'm sure there others. there's always the vespa ciao (the classic moped and longest ever produced model).

i think you could put an oil injection system ... but i wouldn't bother. i like premixing. if the oil injection fails (or you forget to refill it) then your moped is toast.

Ahra Majniu /

Thx for the help!

If things look like this, I won't put in an oil injection system.

I live in Hungary, and most mopeds are old Jawa Babetta's.

I have one myself too.

Re: Mopeds today

Jawa's are scarey!

Re: Mopeds today

i like the way jawas look ... but many people are worried about them here in the us.

i think the availability of mopeds varies from place to place. some places in europe seem to have tons of mopes running around. others do not.

Re: Mopeds today

btw ... we have a hungarian girl in the moped army here in kalamazoo, mi (usa). i'll have her post here to you.

Re: Mopeds today

Ahra:

Hungary is now the home of the Solex, built by Impex Hungaria. The factory is in Berettyoujfalu.

That's the moped with the engne over the front wheel. Not fast, but still fun.

Re: Mopeds today

Ahra, you have my condolences if all you can obtain is a Jawa Babetta.I thought Tomos were popular over there too.

Re: Mopeds today

Ahra Majniu /

I just love Jawa's. The reason for this might be because I learnt to ride on one.

Thx for all. Oh yes and another question:

Is it possible to attach a sports exhaust, and if yes, is it worth to do it????

Re: Mopeds today

Ahra Majniu /

Oh yes i know it!

It looks like a bicycle at all!

Beretty

Re: Mopeds today

Ahra Majniu /

Well, to be honest, I've never heard of Tomos, before I began to surf for mopeds.

I think Solexes are rather exported.

There are very few mopeds over here, mostly Jawa Babetta's, most are rotting in a garage or so, but there are a lot of small motorbikes, like Riga, Verhovina, and so on, mostly Soviet made))) They are relicts even here, very rare. If you are interested in some pics, mail me

Re: Mopeds today

in bolivia, jawas have a great reputation for their engines. so i think they probably built pretty good mopeds. but us americans aren't used to east block designs, i guess. you should rescue those jawas and get them running for your friends!

Re: Mopeds today

Ahra Majniu /

I think that the design is not SO bad. There arent many differences between the design of Jawa Babettas, and western mopeds like Tomos or Puch. Why are the americans worried about Jawa's?? Do they think that they produce more pollution than western mopeds? Or what? Oh and there are many types of Jawa Babetta's

the difference is mostly the form of the tank. Well, thats what can be seen.

Jawa made great motorcycles! I do my best to preserve Jawas. One of my friends has one. Another one has a Riga, and I'm really thrilled, coz I've never really seen a Riga!!! How many km/h -s is 1 mile/h?

Are there any sport exhausts for BAbetta? Or any other chances to increase speed?

Re: Mopeds today

i'm not sure if you can find performance exhausts for jawa or not ... but you should. polini might make some.

Re: Mopeds today

Ahra Majniu /

Miguel what kind of moped do you have?

There are so many old mopeds here because in the seventies, it was the best and cheapest way of transportation in villages, and they didnt even had to wait for it.

(coz if you wanted a car, for example, you had to wait months. That sucked.

Re: Mopeds today

Hey Ahra~

I lived in Budapest from 1984-1997. I think of it as home. Where do you live? Where are you from originally? I'm a member of the Decepticons in Kalamazoo and didn't really fall in love with mopeds until I moved here. I really miss Hungary.

Re: Mopeds today

i have a bianchi snark (w/ minarelli engine) and a vespa grande (the grande is down for repairs momentarily).

Re: Mopeds today

Ahra Majniu /

Hey!

I live in Szolnok, thats about 100 km-s away from Budapest. I was born here.

I dont really like Hungary, but probably I was never away long enough to miss it.

If you have any questions about Hungary, just mail me:

don-ohio, /

Marci, what is there about Hungary you miss? I never understood it was that free a place, but it IS near some world hotspots that may blow up soon.Tell us why you miss it,please. Is there something in America that is bothering you?Don't you like our `freedom of speech' and equal treatment to rich and poor alike?Maybe the scenery is what you miss?Well, this is a big,all-encompassing country with just about any climate you desire and NO restrictions on moving to a place which suits your tastes.Just curious.

Re: Mopeds today

i'll ask marci to elaborate ... but everyone misses a place they consider home. i think the usa might have more opportunity than anyplace else ... but i still miss bolivia and always will. after all, i do have friends and family there.

oh, btw ... hungary was always one of the most "open" of east block countries. so it wasn't a giant gulag or anything like that.

also ... not everything in the east block was bleak. hungary (from what i hear) is beautiful. i hear they have some nice wines and beers. don't let the cold war (which ended a decade ago) color your perceptions! ;-)

Re: Mopeds today

Right,Miguel! I re-read my post and I see I didn't phrase my meaning well.I meant nothing against Hungary.I was just generally curious as to what Marci missed about Hungary, and wanted to relate to her that this is a BIG country with all climates.I understand missing Family members would be a problem, too.Encourage her to see the sights,Miguel! They say airline tickets are really cheap right now.I'm hoping to vacation in Florida for 3 wks. in late Dec.myself.

Re: Mopeds today

no problem, don. yep, i have friends from germany (actually she's half german-czech and he's half german-portuguese) who lived in kzoo and now live in arizona (visiting me saturday). talk about homesick! they're married and no matter where they go they miss everyplace ... portugal, berlin, prague, kalamazoo, kansas (jane lived there a while).

bottom line ... i've known too many people who have lived in so many different places. that includes many friends who lived in exile for years. sure, canada and/or the us (or other places) are great ... and safe refuges from dictatorships ... but there's no place like home.

Re: Mopeds today

Yeah,Miguel, even staying in the State of Ohio I miss a lot of the places where I grew up.Miss a lot of the people, too.Camden,OH,Springboro,OH ,New Richmond,OH,Middletown,OH,Dayton,OH,McArthur,OH,Wilkesville,OH,Waverly, OH,and now Jackson,OH.Lots of memories since 1952 !Dad always rented and moved us around a lot,`cause Mom seemed to be part Gypsy. He always taught school `cause he had a Master's degree in English and had no trouble finding a job wherever Mom wanted to move to next.It was hard on us boys(6 of us)leaving our friends every year or two though.I guess Mom finally got it out of her system when we moved to Jackson,`cause we've lived there ever since 1966.

Ron Brown /

Don,

I don't usually bother respnding to posts unrelated to mopeds but this one pissed me off.

Marci says, "I miss Hungary" and you launch into a "what is it you don't like about the greatest country in the world" tirade. Marci never mentioned not liking the US and a person would have to either be very insecure, want all immigrants to condemn thier country of origin, or be one of these people who are convinced that thier country is the best in the world and how could anyone possibly miss anyplace else.

Ask yourself, if you were young, 4,000 miles from your family and all the friends you grew up with, having to communicate in a foreign language and then some old fart launches into a holier than thou "How can you not like it here" just because you mentioned missing home, how would you feel?

I will end my tirade now, but I hope you can understand the impression that statements/reactions like yours give to others. From previous posts, you seem to be a Christian, this was not a Christian act.

Re: Mopeds today

Ahra Majniu /

Don-Ohio!

I dont know how much you know about Hungary!

You have the same rights as in America, you're free to move anywhere you want,

(oh sorry, Hungary has only one climate) you have the freedom of speech.

I think you dont know SHIT about Hungary. Yes, unfortunately the soviets were here for 40 years. Why do you think their army came here? Heh? Because we started a revolution to make a republic, so against the socialistic government, and

the soviet army killed the people. And the little "temporary" stay of the soviets lasted for 40 years. But we have capitalism since 1989. Maybe Marci misses his home!!! Maybe he grew up in Hungary! Wouldnt you miss the USA if you moved to Italy? Or anywhere else?

Yes, you would. So I suggest you think before you speak.

Re: Mopeds today

Ahra Majniu /

Don Ohio,

You totally pissed me off. You got me so angry, that I didnt even read the responding posts to your message. I'm sorry if I was rude, but it really FUCKS me off if some people dont know too much about something, and try to be "oh so smart". Oh and some more history: We were never part of the soviet union.

We didnt want to be a socialistic country.

Re: Mopeds today

Ron Brown /

Don,

I appologize for yelling at you too. All I can say in my defense is that you deserved it, : )

Ron

Re: Mopeds today

Ron Brown /

and I appoligize for jumping to the conclusion that Marci was a female name. Ahra, who should know much better than me, obviously thinks it is male.

Ron

Re: Mopeds today

Ahra Majniu /

Yes, it's a male name, a form of M
