Clutch problems on a 1976 Batavus

In case you don't know, my clutch engages by a lever and moves the thing against the clutch and starts it, Well now its just getting stuck, If I'm making a quick stop or anything it kills the engine or shakes the whole bike because the thing is rubbing against the clutch. I think thats the problem but when I took it apart and took the thing that pushes against the clutch off, it started w/o it. My friend and I took it apart and put it back together like 5x's for about 5min it would be fine and then it would do it again. I probably sound like an idiot describing this but its hard to describe, well I have encluded a pic of my clutch if that helps any. Thanks in advance

Nick, I realize that this sounds obvious, but some part of the clutch is getting stuck and you are the one who is looking at it. The starting part of the clutch is a control lever, a cable, an operating lever and aclutch disk. If any of these parts are getting stuck, they will look and feel different than when they are not stuck.

If the centrifugal clutch is stuck, it will feel like the starter clutch is stuck except that the operating lever will not move because the clutch is being held on from the inside.

The only solution is to clean, lube and/or replace whatever is sticking. Make sure none of the lube gets on the clutch surfaces.

Also try replacing the washers between them, given they might be crimping at the edge...

Probably weak or rusted clutch shoe return springs.Clean it and apply lube like Ron said.

Don,

No shoes, single plate with manual operating lever on one side and bunch of steel balls in a coil spring running up a ramp on the other.
