honda problems

the petcock on my honda hobbit keeps clogging up without riding it much at all. i keep having to suck on the end so it clears up so the gas flows freely through it again.until 5 miles later it clogs again. but thats not very fun because i keep getting gas on me and there's no other way for me to clean it. what keeps causing that? also i am always having to keep the choke on for my moped to go. it will stall if the choke is off for more than 5 to 10 seconds. can anybody help me with these problems? thanks

Re: honda problems

It should be obvious that you have crud in your gas tank... you will have to take it off and clean it or flush it out... then reinstall it and put on an inline fuel filter to keep the drud that is left out of the carb.

I would just use a garden hose to flush it...

blast it

shake it

dump it out

blast it

shake it

dump it out

.blast it

shake it

dump it out

.then seit it in the sun or on a heater to dry out

then reinstall it

and get an inline fuel filter.

Re: honda problems

why don't you take a shot at why i have to keep the choke on?

dirty carb

whenever you have to keep the choke on to keep it running... its because the normal fuel passages from the float bowl to the throat are clogged

on a PA50 that is the main jet and the brass 'emulsion tube' that the main screws right up next to... (its hard to get out... but the little holes in it are probably clogged also).. I had to use a cut down small allen wrench to push it out... (I cut the small leg of the allen to be shorter than it normally is)

click on 'resources'... then 'articles'... then "How to Fix Your Moped"... then go to the part about cleaning your carb.

Re: dirty carb

thank you fred. i'm very knew to mopeds and haven't much experiance in the field of motors.one more question. what would adjusting the air screw and throttle stop screw accomplish?

Re: dirty carb

when cleaning the gas tank, i like to put some small nuts and washers in the tank w/ a bit of gas and shake it. that also helps get some crud out.

Re: honda problems

whats in an inline fuel filter?

Re: honda problems

In my opinion, the see thru paper type is the best. But there are many different filter media' that are used .(Sintered metal, screen mesh, paper, stone or ceramic,etc.).OH,and HOPEFULLY,there's GAS in there too !

Re: honda problems

i cleaned my tank and my moped runs better than ever and i don't need to use the choke. so everything is fine. thanks
