Unless one is synthetic and the other is non-synthetic, it shouldn't hurt anything. It probably would have been a better idea to ask BEFORE you mixed oils ;)
Chuck, the main thing is you don`t want to mix a synthetic oil and a non synthetic.... they don`t MIX. Doug D.
hmmm, the blue oil was in there when i bought the bike (3 weeks ago)
and the red oil i know isnt synthetic because i got it at walmart for like 2.99 for a pretty big thing of it
should i dump all the oil out to be on the safe side? if so how would i got about doing it on a 87 tomos golden bullet lx
What happens if you mix synthetic oil and a non synthetic? Does it cause a problem? Is it the same for oil injected and pre-mix mopeds?
Try a suction bulb, the big thing of cheap stuff is what you got, should of saved the money you spent on a piston and rings. It will shorten there life by gumming the thing up, it will build up carbon and ash then you will be asking why you lost power? the carbon build-up will score the piston... screw up the rings, plug up the exhaust port, and muffler. Do yourself a favor, trash and clean out the cheap stuff and spend $6 on a good synthetic. Just call the shop that repaired it... sorry dude! Doug D.
i recommend just draining the oil. it's cheap in comparison to wrecking the bike. drain it and refil w/ one type of oil. i tend to stick to one brand of two-stroke oil and never deviate.
Chuck:
George over at MPG where you had you ped worked on, sells the premium grade "synthetic" and also the regular stuff. It has been my limited experience w/peds, that synthetic really cuts down on the "smoke" and bad smell. I would not mix them, in fact most car machanic's don't reccomend that either. With respect to which is better for peds, flip a coin. High grade 2 cycle oil is probably as good as synthetic in the short run. I use what the manufacturer recommends. Personally I run synthethic in my high proformance vehicles and high grade regular in the others. Synthetic does make a difference there (GM has recommended Mobil 1 for vettes for over 15 years; I also use it in the 350 in my truck too.It is basically the same engine block.) No engine problemo's with the vette at 100K. You be the judge. However, I think the guy was right, the money you save on cheapo oil isn't that much when compared to prematurely replacing engine parts.
