Towing a trailer behind a scooter!

Hey guys. I finally got some pics ready to post of my Honda Elite 250 with Cycle Tote trailer. It works pretty well. I've had it up to 50 Mph on a smooth road but 30-40 works best.

Here's a couple more.

I saw a pretty cool trailer behind a motorcycle one day. It had ONE WHEEL on it! I want to build one now. I think the idea is that it's more streamlined and doesn't have as much drag as a trailer with two wheels. I'm thinking to attach it, use a CV joint like what you'd find on the driveshaft or half-shaft of a car. That way, the trailer can move up, down, and side-to-side and it will stay parallel to the moped and lean into the turns with the moped.

Re: Towing a trailer behind a scooter!

The bad thing about the one wheeled trailers is that at slower speeds or stopped the rider has to struggle with balancing not only the motorcycle he's riding but also the one wheeled trailer behind him. I looked into them but my conclusions were that the 2 wheeled trailers were much more stable at all speeds.

If you do build one and use it let us know how it worked out.XBrandon EdgeX wrote:

Re: Towing a trailer behind a scooter!

I am happy wearing a back pack, with some water, beef jerkey, and a change of clothes in it. My bike wouldn't like all of that weight behind it.

Re: Towing a trailer behind a scooter!

Chris, don't wear a backpack if you have a rear carrier or can get one.Just run the straps around the bottom and pull the pack against the seat.WORKS GREAT !You can also hang a bag on the handlebars with some tools and a BB gun for unruly dogs that try to wreck you. That's MY cure for the mutts with big teeth and no brains.

Re: Towing a trailer behind a scooter!

Don,

The summer edition of Scoot Quarterly has a picture of a custom one wheel trailer on a sixties Vespa SS 180. It's a realy classy ordeal, with a connector for the brake/tail lights. It uses two pin joints so the trailer can move up and down (for when climbing hills) and side to side (for turning). I think this is how I'd do it too. I don't know that the ball joint would prevent the trailer from tipping over sideways. Dunno.

Yeah, that's what I was talking about, too. Use a joint that has a horizontal and vertical pivot point (from a vantage point ahead of or behind the bike). Plus, if you build it so that it has a low center of gravity, it won't be much harder to balance.

roberto, post a pic of that setup

Sorry,

but I don't have a scanner at work. I'll try to use the digital camera but I'm not sure how well it will look. Later.

oooooo... don-ohio is packin heat!

and we all thought Ree was the resident badass!

I'm sorry don-ohio... I didn't mean anything bad!

: )

I love the idea of a dog repeller... I was bitten 3 times as a kid with a paper route.. and guess what?... I didn't sue! (didn't even think of it... no stitches)

With a ped I just gas it and get ready to lift my feet from being bit.

They say a squirt gun with ammonia in it shot in their face stops'em cold.
