Puch Exhaust

I was cleaning my muffler on a 1977 puch maxi 2hp and I removed the baffle and the cylindrical piece that fits inside the baffle.

However now I have a question. Does this cylindrical piece fit completely inside the baffle or does it stick out about a half a centimeter. I can't remember, and it doesnt really seem like it wants to slide all the way inside. Would I get incresed top end if I removed this piece all together? Has anyone tried it?

Also has anyone ever tried removing the baffle and stuffing a little fiberglass inside the baffle to improve top end? Thanks

Can one of you guys who has a Puch please check for me? All the Puch exhausts from that era are the same. The reason that I ask is it seems like there isnt enough back pressure now as the moped is very slow to accellerate. Thanks.

I'm not quite sure what you're talking about. Are you talking about the pipe that's permanently attached to the header pipe (pipe coming off of the engine) in relation to the big chrome baffle or the inner pieces of the baffle in relation to the chrome shell?

If you look at the exhaust baffle in the end of the exhaust pipe there is a pipe that can be removed from the baffle. I dont know if this pipe/tube fits all the way inside the baffle or if it pokes out a bit. I do know that a washer covers the end of it and there is locknut over it. Thanks.

I attatched a photo from the moped junkyard. I am talking about the tube that fits inside the baffle.

okay, I think I know what you're talking about now, that little tube right in the center that the washer and lock nut tighten up against. It should actually stick out about half an inch, so that the dime-sized hole on the side of the tube is exposed. If it only sticks out half a centimeter, then you might want to see if you can put some kind of spacer in there because if it's pushed in too far, I don't think the exhaust gas can escape. If the nut on the end will tighten up with just the tube and no baffle, I'd try that. It'll be quite a bit louder and maybe a little faster.

hey another thing is to just take out the baffle all together. it sounds really good but your neighbors might get a little mad
