Re: Biodiesel Swarm

Seams to me you guys are missing the point completely.

if you could get a moped to run on soy, it would be a marketeers dream. finally you would have something to offer to all the vegans (not that theres anything wrong with being a vegan)

but, that way they wouldn't have to feel so bad about all the baby dinosaurs that died to make fuels. because baby dinosaurs are innocent and they didn't deserve the unethical treatment they have received. it is a truly brilliant idea.

ha, seriously though, vegans are ok. and that is a cool idea.

Re: Biodiesel Swarm

"How many gallons of vegetable or soy oil can farmers produce per acre? Anyone know?"

About 50.

Re: Biodiesel Swarm

So if you want to grow a crop to produce oil...

Rapeseed is the way to go. or maybe coconut but that may not work in New York.

Anyone interested in producing their own fuel to run their car, heat their home, oil and degrease their moped, Biodiesel is the way to go.

Randolf Diesel was running his revolutionary engine at the 1900 Worlds Fair in Paris on peanut oil.

His body was discovery a couple years later in the English Channel. The rest is history. People are "discovering" that their diesel engine will run on vegetable oil.

Don't vote. It's useless.

Don't buy Gas. It's Genius.

If anyone wants information on producing their own Biodiesel, there is tankloads of information.

A good website is www.journeytoforever.org

I may have not explaned myself well. I am aware of the veggie set up, infact I spent allot of time helping him get it running. I was mostly commenting on that particular truck. It would not go over 65 on the highway, and you had to downshift ALOT on hills, and forget the hills if you had a load of wood in the tiny bead. It may have just been a very abused truck, but it was puny. I'm used to small cars, I had a 78' Datsun 210 hatchback with a 60hp 1.4L, maybe 45 ft. lbs torque? Anyway that car, with 250K and no engine rebuild, could easily out pull that tiny VW "truck" besides no truck should be front wheel drive! And that truck was also hard to start on regular diesel in 40 degree weather (he also sometimes used biodisel in the diesel tank), in Minnesota we have problems starting any old car, much less a diesel when it gets down to -30! What is the MB 300sd? I’m not familiar with it; it sounds like a cool (car? truck?)

I live in Minneapolis, i'd love to check out some disel motorbikes!

Re: Biodiesel Swarm

the set up consists of two tanks, one with a heater (running coolant from the engine) for the oil, and your regular disel tank. there is also a seprate fuel line with a filter for the oil, and a selenoid to switch back and fourth. whale living with the roomate who had the setup some problumes were evedent, its definatly not for everyone. the first thing is that it is really messy, if you have the tank in your trunk, its going to smell RANCID! if you go for a more proffesional install and mount it somwhere under the vhicle you wont have this problume, but it will also be hard to access the tank if you need to, and good luck finding a spot under there if your running an old VW. collecting can be a pain, certin sources not having adiquite quality oil. the main drag is filtering, not only do you have to have a heated space (witch will also smell RANCID) but you eather have to spend a butload on filter bags or have enough space for a couple 55 gallon barrels to sit and settle for a couple months.

you can check more info at www.greasel.com, but I wouldent recomend buying one of there kits. the one my freind had was full of second rate non automotive quality materels (hardware hoses and clamps, etc), a plastic tank that they just cut a hole into and calked and screwed a plate with the heater into, and other junk you could just buy or do yourself. I could have made him a much higher quality systm for the same price.

I hope i dont sound like I'm dissing the veggie oil, I'm toatally for it! i think it just needs some better engeneering, thats all.

those 7.3L diesels kick ass. the farm I worked at had two '88 F-250's with the 7.3L. there was a big hill by the farm, and one time they rented a bulldoser (im not sure of the size, medium, not a skidsteer by any means) and put it on there already heavy hydrolic dump trailer. the truck towed it from a stop, up the hill without a grunt of discomfort! one was a 4 speed, you could accuually start out in 4th gear if you wanted and it wouldent eaven notice!

Re: Biodiesel Swarm

A MB 300SD is a 5-cylinder turbodiesel sedan. Google it, Mine is deep navy blue with palomino(tan) leather interior. Power everything, including the seats and heatrests. Independant rear suspension. (rear wheel drive) 4-speed auto. Sunroof, rear heat/A/c

Its a nice car, In 1985 it sold for $30,000 and i got it for $300..

Re: Biodiesel Swarm

those 5-cylinder's are great! and driving around in a loaded MB feel's good.

yea, josh shoot me a e-mail, i hope to have one of the deisel motorbikes here in the next month or so, your welcome to come on over and check it out, there so fucking cool.
