stopped by a cop

<HTML>My son (age 12) got stopped by a cop shile riding home the other day. The cop asked him where he was going, told him that he had to be 16 or have pedals on the bike he was riding. My son walked the bike the rest of the way home. I think a pain-in-the-neck neighbor called the cop. The bike looks like a cross between an old motorcycle and a minibike from the 60s. Looks like I'll be finding him a field to ride in.</HTML>

RE: stopped by a cop

<HTML>well do you have a moped or a motorcycle?

moped being under 50cc 2 hp

RE: stopped by a cop

<HTML>It seems to be neither. It has no pedals but does not have the motor size to be a motorcycle. In Florida, they are even stopping gopeds(motorized skateboards). For someone without a license to to ride anything with a motor, it must have pedals as well. If not, it must have a tag and the driver must have a license. I am tempted to get a sales receipt for it and tag it so I can ride it. The bike is so small though that it would be dangerous in traffic.</HTML>

Ryan Price /

<HTML>The same statutes in Arizona apply it sounds like. What we have are classifications. 1.) ANY motorised vehicle needs a lisenceexcept Go-Peds, and you must be 16 yo to have one. 2.) Mopeds MUST be lisenced 3.) Motorcycles with 50CC and less qualify as a NO-Ped (same as moped - BUT you must ride them in traffic - mopeds can use the bike lane). Thats the main reason I now own two Puch Maxi's. They qualify as mopeds, and can use the bike lane. Maybe you could do the same.</HTML>
