Need a ignition coil

Hey,

I had posted a while back about my mo-ped topping out at 25mph on the nose. Well thanx to the fine people on this page i found out what is was. Its the ignition coil. It has a built in restriction. What i was wondring was if anybody has an igniotion coil that they are 110% positive that isnt restricted that they would be willing to sell me. My mo-ped is a 1989 Trac oympic Blitz. The coil looks like a blue cyclender with the wire comming out of it for the plug and some others for the things on the flywheel.

Thanks a bunch,

Trac Man

What Voltage ?

Re: Need a ignition coil

When u say voltage do u mean the voltage of the bike itsefl? Its got a 6v battery and all the bulbs are 6 volt so i guess its a 6 volt system ( dir :)) If thats not what u ment sorry

I don't know how you figured this out from postings on this board, but if the part you are talking about is only an ignition coil, you need to look someplace else for your restrictor.

Re: Need a ignition coil

No,

It is the ignition coil. I am 100% positive it is the coil. It has a restrictor built into the coil Itself. I have gotten info off of THIS PAGE and have also gotten info from a mo-ped shop in my area.

Re: Need a ignition coil

Ree,

I recently replaced an iginition ciol on a 12v Tomos with an old ignition coil from an old bike...it seems to work. How would I know what the voltage is on an old ignition coil?

When I looked at a parts ssite...the ignition coil looked fairly generic.

Thanks much,

Lois

Re: Need a ignition coil

It doesn`t matter whether your moped`s el system is 6 or 12V.

It is the magneto thet generates high voltage (about 12000-18000V`s) needed for producing a spark.

I`ve used the old ignition coil`s that my old man replaced on his car and they do the job!
