Maximum distance on a Moped?

<HTML>Hello Moped Army!

I got hold of a Tomos A3 engine (Don't know what model it is, I think "Standard") and have put 2000 miles on the original 3000 it had. I was wondering what the longest distance a moped could run without having to completely rebuild the engine?

Is the traditional design a result of Post War depression, or are the problems the shortcomings of the 2 cycle motor?

Also, I was wondering anyone knows if the A3 engine could be upgraded to produce more power? I know that the lesser pressure on a Tomos exhaust will allow faster movement, but so far all I have seen an upgrade about is the A5.

TIA, Capn!</HTML>

<HTML>Hey i don't know how long they will last but my new 99' Tomos has 6091 miles on it right now and it's still running strong. But i was wondering if you could tell me where to get that upgrade for the A5, i would really appreciate it. Thanks bro. Peace out</HTML>

<HTML>I have a 20 year old moped which has probably ran more than 8000 without big maitenance problems</HTML>

RE: Maximum distance on a Moped?

<HTML>Hi

I had several Tomos A3's in London in the late 1980's, with one recording around 10,000 miles (can't b sure of exact mileage as the odometer fails long before any part of the engine does!). The Tomos engines were fairly robust, but it helps to ensure good oil mix and decarb the exhaust port and baffle occasionally. The accepted way of producing more power is a rebore and oversize piston.

RE: Maximum distance on a Moped?

<HTML>my friend has a moped that has went about 30,000 miles and is still running great. He makes the mixture alittle richer than normal and instead of ridind full throttle he`ll go 3/4 throttle and go 5 mph slower the compression is normal. My freind has an old puch. He`s a machanic. He has had it since he was a young kid he is 35 years old now. Well if you want it to last long you must treat it right.</HTML>
