IT'S ALIVE !!!! well, sorta....

I finally got the ped from hell to start. However, in order to keep it running I hafta give it plenty of throttle, as soon as I let the throttle go, it dies. It's got new piston, rings and cylinder so I'm a little tentative with the throttle. So my problem is it's not idling. I think there is only an air screw on the carb, unlike some that have an air and idle screw. Should I try adjusting this slightly ? Any ideas are by all means welcome. This is a mobylette to avoid any confusion. Thanks !

Re: IT'S ALIVE !!!! well, sorta....

try the screw . put in all the way and see what happens, you can try the cable. Usually they idle fast, due to bad carbs.

Dan,

The idle screw only keeps the slide in the correct position for idling. You should be able to make it idle with the throttle. If it will not idle under throttle control, something else is wrong.

There are small passages in the carb to control idle mixture, these must be completely clean. Check the timing too.

Hey There, if you just had it apart, why not ck for a air leak, spraying carb cleaner around carb, intake, and head...good luck.. DougD

Re: IT'S ALIVE !!!! well, sorta....

The carb was professionally rebuilt, and I talked to the guy who did the work and he's sending me different sized jets. Fred mentions in his guide that a lot of euro peds have jets that are too big. Could the main jet being the wrong size have something to do with it ? Also, I know this probably doesn't have anything to do with my problem, but the decompression cable isn't connected, making it a bit harder to start. I need to adjust it but don't really know how, I need more cable to come out the end to be able to connect it. Any tips ? Thanx again guys and gals...
