motron cylinder head

I purchased a used motron moped around late 70's or early 80's.The speedomotor said 400 miles and it ran well at the time.Iam experiencing hard starting at present but when it starts it runs well.I replaced the spark plug and increased the idle because it appeared to load up on fuel and stall when going down hill coasting at idle.I pulled the head to examine it and there was no gasket. Is there supposed to be a gasket between the block and the cylinder head?If somone is familiar with this engine please comment. Thanks Jim

Jim,

I don't know about a motron specifically but many peds with an iron barrel and aluminum head do not use a gasket. I use a thin coat of Loctite 819.

Don't over tighten the head bolts/nuts or you may warp the head.

Jim,

Make sure you scrape all of the carbon out of the exhaust port and give the carburetor a thorough strip down and clean. See Fred's "How to fix your moped" in the resources section.
