Derbi gpr 50 vs Motorhispania rx50

I am 17 and are about to buy a 50cc bike, does any one no which one i should go for there the Derbi gpr 50 or the Motorhispania rx50 both around the same price and the same good looks,

I no the insurance is cheap on them because there speed resticted, but does any one now how to get around this + how much ,and the what the legel issues are for me to ride it unresticted.

please help me

Re: Derbi gpr 50 vs Motorhispania rx50

Derbi is a must, de-restricing them invalidates licence as well as insurance, but the police in the uk dont know the differance between resricted or not. Tuning derbi's is easier, to derestrict remove carbrettor and take out the ring at the front nearest the engine, if there isnt 1 (as models change country to country) take off the exhaust and look for an oversized washer in the manifold. If it isnt here then ur in trouble, coz its expensive to do the rest.

1.Gearing, up it as high as yoou can 15 tooth front 41 or lower rear.

2.Electronic ignition, get some1 else to do this and ask for a rev booster to be fitted, if they say there is no such thing tell em to check out mine.

3.Fit race exhaust, jolly moto are the dogs bollox, and get the carb jetting kit otherwise the is no point, air filter if poss.

4.$$$$$ Extreme tuning, includes: Blue printing (ideal for the bike to rev out faster)

Crank lightening:very good idea, makes it rev harder.

Big bore kit: Get a Polini 1 if poss and get it seen too for port polishing and gas flow.

Otherthings like stage 2 or 3 even i have yet to look into, but my Festina Race Rep has all the above and does a genuine 75mph, only 8mph of the fastest gpr in the world.

The cost of this is unbelievable, I paid 1,800 pounds for mine, and at least a further 1000 to get going fast. I reckon another 500 will c it fit.

Pete.

Re: Derbi gpr 50 vs Motorhispania rx50

Hi,Rob! Pete knows that Derbi ,doesn't he? The only thing I'm wondering is whether the engine could last a long time with these mods,or is trouble down the road? Maybe Pete can give you an idea of the longevity of an engine after these mods? I don't know about you,but I'd rather run at 35-40 mph and not have to worry about rebuilding and expense, than run 60mph and have to rebuild every 2000 miles.I'm just curious `cause I don't know much on this subject and I hope Pete will enlighten me.BYE!

Re: Derbi gpr 50 vs Motorhispania rx50

your probably right there don, I'll get it unresticted then leave it, cheaper and wont end up killing my self, cheers guys

ps is there any uk derbi fans out there. and is the uk model easy to unrestict eg(oversized washer..?)

Re: Derbi gpr 50 vs Motorhispania rx50

Rob, I wish most 17 yr.olds were as savvy as you ! There'd be a lot less funerals to go to,and a lot less grieving parents.I'd say that Derbi will be blazin' fast enough without too much expense to you.See ya!

Re: Derbi gpr 50 vs Motorhispania rx50

Hi Rob,

I live in the states and just got a Derby GPR about a week ago. Here is a link to an excellent UK derby sight http://www.geocities.com/gpr50r/

My Derby I bought here in the States was one that Derby built in a lot to be sold here for a National Race by ARMA called the Derbi Cup. There are several races held around the USA racing just these bikes. The first race was in March on the High Banks of Daytona florida on the same course the Daytona 200 motorcycle race is held on. The Derbys at Daytona were clocked at 85 mph coming off the banking. That is about 140Killometers per hour . My bike has the 75cc kit and the 22mm carb installed with no restrictor in the Exhaust. My bike runs about 85 MPH also. I weigh only 150 lbs and that helps too. The handling and Braking is great. I recommend the Derby.

Re: Derbi gpr 50 vs Motorhispania rx50

thanks for that website bob,

just interested, has any one been caught with a unresticted derbie or other 50cc bike by the police?, whats the penelty, fine ..,, and what are the real odds of getting caught in the first place

cheers rob.

Re: Derbi gpr 50 vs Motorhispania rx50

hi there! im from holland, the penalty for driving too fast is a "money payment". or if you are faster then 80 km/h your bike will be destroyed. but these are the dutch rules. in other country's the rules are not as hard as our rules! i ve got a gpr too, he doesn't drive as fast as yours. because my carb. is only 14mm. now my question, isn't the 14mm carb. bad for the 50cc cilinder? please mail me!!!! gsuss85@hotmail.com

dutch gpr rider's --> hoe kan ik mijn brommertje een beetje opvoeren zonder er meteen 70cc onder te moeten gooien?Rob wrote:

Re: Derbi gpr 50 vs Motorhispania rx50

Hi Bob,

I live in the states as well and purchased a 74cc Derbi brand new out of the

box 2 months ago. Mine only does 70mph on flat land. I weigh 165 lbs.

Did you make any modifications? Were you able to get 85mph right out of

the box?

Re: Derbi gpr 50 vs Motorhispania rx50

WWW.Revengelegion.nl/derbi is a really good site!!

Nice forum too =)

Re: Derbi gpr 50 vs Motorhispania rx50

ok you bike newbs , the Motorhispania Rx50 is the newest and Best sportsbike 50cc model. its from Spain and it has 4 or 5 more Bph than the derbi or most Uk bikes because there all inported from spain which has different laws on peds. Also the motorhispania has features that r only usually found on larger bikes like a CBR or R1.

not many people have a Motorhispania in the uk because the bike is only 1 year old and youl see alot of Dealers startting to sell it because they can see its potential to be the best 50cc.

if u prefer the looks of the derbi thats fair enough it is a good bike , although some say unreliable.

at 2195 OTD the motorhispania really is the only choice.

Re: Derbi gpr 50 vs Motorhispania rx50

hi..ive had a gpr for 9 months now,its got a metrakit exhaust, metrakit 75cc kit and ive just fitted a 15 tooth front sprocket.now im not a teenager, and im probably 14 stone but this little bike flies....accelartion not so good with this sprocket, but it will do 115 kph, which is almost 70 mph..68.2 mph really.im not kidding i often go ride outs with a mate who owns a kawasaki vn 800 and he agrees with these performance figures.ive done 3500 miles on it...its partially heat seized twice but let it cool down and off it goes again...brilliant fun,as long as you keep it out of the red..almost 70 mph at 11000 refs..amazing ime thinking about a big carb now hopefully to increase acceleration cause i dont think i can go any faster safely without blowing it up

Re: Derbi gpr 50 vs Motorhispania rx50

You guys sure know a lot about these bikes!

Quick question.. I have a 2002 Derbi Gp1 50cc scooter and am looking to de-restrict it if possible.. is it restricted at all in the US? I can get to 45 mph on level roads stock.

Thanks!

Andrew

Re: Derbi gpr 50 vs Motorhispania rx50

hi.. i have a motorhispania rx 50 and these things really fly. i have just brought one and i needs to be de-restricted as my mates one does about 70mph and i want to keep up with him. please could someone please tell me how to de-restrict one of these things in every way so that i can get top speed. i need to know everything from exaust de-restriction to differny sprockets

these things are so much better and more reliable than the derbi

thanx!

Re: Derbi gpr 50 vs Motorhispania rx50

I own the MotorHispaniaRX, and live in SouthEast Spain. Here there are quite a few Rx's and GPR's, but i prefer the RX to looks. So far i've only changed my exhaust pipe to a Jazen Racing, but it hasn't done alot on it's own, still running about 85-90km/h. So soon i'm going to buy a carb and maybe change the cylinders or such. I've also changed the indicators, as the stock ones are a bit big and bulky, so i brought blue ones for the back and small carbon look ones for the front. I'll try to get a picture of it soon.

okay rob, im not going to say wot you need to do but my friend has got the reiju rs1 evoulution (spanish track bike) and that holds 60mph on the flat, and because its imported from spain it comes with out restrictors there is a picture on the site of one in the same colours as his, but just recently reiju have brought out the rs2 matrix and that is more sleeker and has a lower profile http://www.rieju.co.uk check this site it mite b able to convince u a rieju is good lol, my freind had a derbi predator and it broke on the 3rd month of him havign it and that was about yr and a half ago and hes only just got it fixed, im trying not to be biased but my freinds rieju is nice and i think u should consider it.

luke the king

ps the cops dont pull u for doing over 30mph because wen u ride a bike with a fairing it looks like a 125!

Re: Derbi gpr 50 vs Motorhispania rx50

I like the Rieju's, both the RS1 and RS2, but i still prefer the RX. Here in Spain, there are all models of the 'racing look' 50cc. The most common ones are the Rieju RS1, RS2, The RX, Yamaha TZR50 (old and new model), Derbi GPR, (old and new model), Aprillia RS50, and the aprillia Tuono50. They're ALL very beautiful, but i guess you know which is my favourite. Anyway, i've brought my carburetor, a 24.

Re: Derbi gpr 50 vs Motorhispania rx50

I have done everything to my derbi gpr that i can possibly do, and it gose 100mph, i fell off the other day and only broke 1 arm! I pulled a wheelie and the bike flipped 4 times it wos gangster! derbi gprs are phat, and so are motorhispania and you!

Re: Derbi gpr 50 vs Motorhispania rx50

hi, my name is mark and i am currently living in new york city, westchester, i am buying a 2nd hand derbi gpr 50 , i was wondering, it has only bump start, is there a place i can find the piece to install for key ignition, also it operates also, but dosent have a battery. i would like to put a battery back in the bike, also woul;d like to upgrade the blinkers, and some fairing parts,is there a website or dealer in new york that sell part for this bike.

please i need your help, and does anyone know how to reconnect the wiring for the light, head and tail lights......i need some guidance.

thanks mark

Re: Derbi gpr 50 vs Motorhispania rx50

Wow, Westchester. Being from that part of NYC myself, I can say that it is not part of NYC. White plains, maybe.

Matisyahu is from White Plains. I didn't know that until recently.

Anyway, Mark, the Derbi you're getting sounds awesome. It is also not really like mopeds except for the 50cc, two-stroke powerplant - everything else (starter, fairings, brakes, frame, lights) is different. I'm not sure anyone on this site this year will be able to answer your questions.

Well, okay, technically this post was an answer to your question. It wasn't a very good answer, though.

P.S. - If you're getting a second hand bike that has a starter motor but no ignition switch you should consider that it might be stolen.
