spree problem

I have a 1986 spree. It starts up fine and idles fine, but when i increase the throttle, the engine starts to bog and it dies unless i ease up on the throttle. I cleaned the carb a half a dozen times, so i am almost possitive its not the carb. But since i bought this thing, i have always had problems with the automatic choke. For some reason when the choke was engaged the scooter wouldn't keep an idle. So i ended up just disableing the choke by disconecting one of the wires. This seemed to work... So after i cleaned the carb and put everything back to the way it was (with the disabled choke) it seemed to run alright. I let the thing sit over night and i started it up the next morning and took it to work, and it ran fine. When i started it up to take drive home, it was bogging. I ended up having to push the scooter home. so to wrap it all up, it starts great, it idles great, it just won't run or accelerate. please help.

Sounds like a plugged exhaust to me. I had similar symptoms on my peugeot 103. Found pieces of carbon blocking the exit from the muffler. De-carbon the muffler is my suggestion.

Good luck.

Bret,

Sounds more like a plugged main jet to me, have you installed a fuel filter?

Re: spree problem

I have not installed a fuel filter. How would i go about installing one.

Re: spree problem

Ron Brown /

Bret,

Pick up a small one at a motorcycle or lawn mower shop, cut the fuel line to the carb and splice it back together with the filter.
