1980 Motobecane, looks good but big problems...

James Mercier /

<HTML>I have a 1980 Motobecane, ( doesn't appear to have any other name). I HAD it running rather well at one point, but after I replaced the fuel valve it has never worked right since. The engine won't turn over unless i turn ON the kill switch, then to start it up i have to go down a terribly steep hill, pedal like MAD, and turn the kill switch on. Once I hear the engine start to sputter, i turn the kill switch off. This went on (it got harder and harder to start) for about a month, then i put it in the garage for around 1 month. it won't start up at all now, and is leaking gas from somplace (i can't find out where). How would some one go about doing an entire rehaul on this engine? The Frame and wheels and brakes are in good condision and work great. Any ideas?</HTML>

<HTML>Maybe you have some junk in your carb. take the carb off, check your float chamber, make sure there is no debri, there is also a little filter in your cab, make sure that is clean. if you sitll have problems, take the fuel pepcock off, and make sure it works. you can do this by blowing throu it in the on postiotion. if air comes through it probably works. i am not sure what else to do.

<HTML>I'm thinking the same thing Dan here was. Check out your carb. If you need help understanding the carb, go to scootertherapy.com. In the help section you will find a section called carb tips. It'll show you how to clean the living piss out of that thing. If that doesn't help, try e-mailing them at scootert@chorus.net. They'll get you going again. Ped on!</HTML>
