How to work around a restrictor

Eric Schuler /

Hey,

I have a 1990 Trac and it tops out at 25. It keeps going and going till it hits the 25mph mark then it just stopes. Almost like its lost a spark. I thnk its a restrictor thing. Does anybody know how to adjust or get rid of the restrictor all togeather? Any other tips on how to speed it up are welcome ;)

Thanks,

Eric

Re: How to work around a restrictor

Eric, that's where you need a manual. If there is a centrifugal kill on it or something it would be listed in the shop manual. It must be CDI ignition in 1990,I'd say,or I would have said that the points are gapped too widely.I had that happen on my MOTOMARINA,1987,and it nearly drove me nuts `til I checked the point gap and it had been set by someone else at >.022".I cleaned them and reset them and that bike runs so smooth it's got me worried about it.I've never seen a 2-stroke run that smoothly.I hope one of the Gurus gets you straightened out with your problem.BYE!

Re: How to work around a restrictor

No,Eric.I was talking about `contact breaker points' which you probably don't have anyway. But gap your plug at about .024" of an inch, and it should be close. With a CDI ignition though,it might need to be gapped a little wider.Somebody who knows that bike will help you soon,I'm sure.BYE!
