Derbi GPR dummy gas tank

Tony Sherriff /

Anyone out there had this problem? I have a Derbi GPR 75 that now has a very deformed gas tank. The dummy tank appears to be made from a type of thermo-plastic moulding. The other day the bike was in full sunlight with temperatures in the 90's this appears to have softened the tank material so that the spring that is located on the underside of the tank to hold it open when unlocked tried to push itself through the tank!

So in closing park your bike in the shade or cover it in some way. I doubt the factory warrenty covers this!!!!

Hey Tony! The factory warranty should cover it or make it good. That's a safety problem and you should firmly ask them to correct it.BYE!

Hey Don, thanks for the reply, my local dealer is working on the warranty issue. Fortunately on this bike the "Dummy" tank is designed to hold a crash helmet, the real gas tank is located under the seat so it's really more annoying than a safety issue. I think when the new moulding arrives a layer of fiberglass installed on the underside will help to distribute the stress caused by the spring over a wider area. Safe riding.
