Batavus lights...don't!!!

Had a little run in with the curb yesterday. A sweet dear old lady cut me off. She appologized and said she thought she had more room than she did. I will give her credit for being honest. Problem is I hit the bottem of the crankcase on the curb. It knocked my clutch nut loose (again!!!) and the lights went out. Rebuilt the clutch (again!!!) and I checked out the magmeto. Everything looks good and she runs well (for now!!!) but the bloody lights won't come back. I'm wondering if I damaged the coils or something. I traced back all the wiring and it seems good. Even tested the bulbs and they're fine. I can't get the magnet housing off the magneto assembly to check in greater detail. It has a large thread running inside around the shaft. Does the housing screw on\off or do I need a puller? If it screws off, is it a forward or revered thread? I'm soooo dissapointed. I only got to ride into work twice before this happened. I have GOT to get back on my own two wheels.

Richard,

You need a puller. It has threads on the outside and a bolt in the middle. Try some of the suppliers under resources.

Checked the magneto voltage for the lights while the engines running at the wire coming out of the engine housing. If it's fine then there is no need to take the flywheel off. You've done the visial inspection of your wiring harness now try an electrical inspection by taking voltage reading up to the light switch. Maybe you jarred the fillings loose in the light switch or at one of the termainal blocks.

Re: Batavus lights...don't!!!

I did a continuity test from the terminal block to the lightbulb and it checked out fine. I'll take your advice and check the voltage too. I never thought to do that.

Thanks. Now I have another route to try.

If I have to pull off the flywheel, I can make a bracket for my puller with no problem. I noticed that there are four smaller (5mm) threaded holes around the flywheel. Is this where I would mount the puller bracket. I REALLY don't want to bend or break anything here!!!

I have also thought about getting the light coils rewound to convert to a 12V system. I know a place nearby that can do this for me. Does this sound wise?

Pretty good

Re: Batavus lights...don't!!!

Thanks, but the problem isn't the light itself. Everything from the terminal block up checks out fine. Appreciate the offer.
