It's Alive ! Aliiiiiiiveee ! (oh, and Fred ?)

Reeperette /

Yes, due to the combined-minds approach of Fred and Myself, the moped my ex recently purchased actually runs...well, sorta.

It's a Tomos frame, damn sure...but in checking it against the engine I thought it was (A pre-A3 Tomos type) they did not match up.

One did, however....The Batavus "Lisa" engine.

What she most needs right now is that stupid little cir-clip that holds the clutch on...anyone got one of these ?

Gonna try mopedjunkyard on it too, but the # they gave me is a fax machine, ugh.

That, and the engine side covers...most especially the side covering the magneto and points, but both would be nice if they can be found.

And one brake lever...

I got one on the Suzuki, and if you don't need it for anything, Fred...imma pull it off and ship it to her.

As for that...the Suzuki parts bike is yours, gratis...for your much appreciated assistance in this matter, just lemme know when you wanna pick it up.

Of course, during an attempt to push start it I inflicted upon myself a nasty bruise and partial ankle sprain, quite possibly a hairline fracture...and a pressure cut that came right close to stitches, so I won't be ridin for a little bit....being that the other leg is metal, it's kinda down to crawling right now.

(it was a minor miracle I made it home in fact, thanks be for cruise control...)

So, unroll your Tomos questions if you have any saved up...it's not like I can do anything else right now.

Get this, folks...My Ex is more than half-afraid of it...and intends to (gasp, the horror !) SELL it when she can afford a car...

If so, I got first dibs....but if I pass....well...

Meanwhile, I told her to come here and rap with you guys, while giving her the copy of the printed manual y'all gave me at BBQ4...tellin her it's her new 'bible'....so, let's try to "convert" her from the evil world of four wheeled cages...shall we ?

Oh, yeah...and now my roomie is SURE we are all insane...thanks guys&gals !

a week with a moped and i'm sure she'll be converted. pending a crash or spill doesn't sour her opinion first. good work ree.

Circlip

If that circlip is actually impossible to buy through the moped shops... then I would certainly just have "Bill" measure it and go down the a hardware store and buy one that is likely to fit.

It is probably also supposed to have a large thin flat washer behind it.

And Ree... I don't know if you noticed it... but it is the whole lever bracket on the bars that is broken... not the lever itself... so the Suzuki part won't work anyway.

She also needs to write on that list about the choke dealie... though in hot weather she won't need it.

And I will take whats left of the Suzuki... I was hoping that was going to be the payoff. ;)

Actually, it will...I hadda good look at it and when I got home I looked at the one on the parts bike, in fact the Suzuki uses a near-identical gizmo...so it should fit right on, replacing the busted one.

It's a cast one-piece thingie with a slot for the cable, and even the same size on the handlebars.

I think Mopedjunkyard oughta have the Circlip....they have the idle screw and spring for the ENCARWI (and yes folks, I was spellin it right from get!) Carb...and they have mosta the parts for the "Lisa" engine, including the clutch plate that the cir-clip goes to, so they oughta have the clip itself...one can hope.

And given that all three parts are between $1.00-$2.00...it's no big thing to her.

What I hoped, but am unsure about, is whether they carry those covers.

As for the choke, given the difficulty of operating it, and how that piece is kinda stripped out like it is...I will be giving her a simpler solution, a small cork with a hole through the middle....to stick in the air intake.

(being where it is, that's easy enough)

"Manual Choke" indeed...it should serve the same function.

Oh I doubt it would be that easy, Simon.....

You'd hafta meet her to really comprehend....but, well...to her it's more of a way to save up the cash to get a car, than anything else...and she's quite terrified of it, really.

It's very intimidating to her....being loud, obnoxious, requiring her to get her hands dirty, and means she'll actually hafta pay serious attention to operating it...etc.

And when it rains, she'll likely call someone for a ride.

But here's for hoping, as far as "Conversion" goes.

On the other hand..."Lily White", in Baltimore...has a whole horde just ITCHING to get their hands on mopeds...especially when they hear the words "80+ mpg" and "no insurance".

Insurance rates inside the 695 loop are BRUTAL, even a good driver can find themselves paying up to $3,500 a year !

Compared to a Moped....not having to pay that ? wellllll.....

They are swarming and destroying the few dealers in town right about now.

So...we'll see.

Oh that's just freaky...

Having re-read that...I guess that describes some men too, don't it ?

Could be why one of em's an Ex...heh ?

For themopedjunkyard, try (410) 524-1313. Dont tell them where you got the #

They gave it to me...it's on the page with the Batavus "Lisa" parts, saying to call, since they have em off and on and you never know, etc...

Only - they hadda Fax machine hooked up, so I hadda email em....no response so far.
