Ring flutter

Ring flutter is a condition in two stroke engines in which the piston moves faster than the piston rings are able to move. This typically happens at extremely high RPMs. This can be particularly harmful as it results in a very poor seal which allows hot combustion gases and some amount of flame into the crank case damaging bearings and introducing excess heat. The use of a Dykes ring can help alleviate this problem.
