Derbi CDI guys tips and tricks
I have had this Derbi for a while and have been trouble shooting it little by little.
First thing was bad crank seals then a couple other things.
I came to the conclusion that it has electrical issues.
It just so happened that like an hour after I decided to get a new ignition system for it my home boy stopped by to floss his new pipe.
I mentioned my situation and he was like oh I have you covered on a treats CDI.
I went and scooped it from him and got to work.
'I read the write up on treats but it was for the ZA50 ignition so ita kind of backwards for the E50 set up I have.
So I followed that write up with the exception of flipping the ignition coil.
I just had enough time tonight to dremel out the center hole and the top screw hole for mounting the plate. I didn't have to dremel out any of the supports so now I have the plate bolted up with the wires where they need to be (I hope).
Tomorrow comes mounting the box and setting my timing.
I haven't had any insurmountable problems yet but if anyone wants to share any experiences or issues that would be helpful.
Also where did you guys end up have your timing set?
Thats one thing I really haven't had to deal with is timing CDIs. I can time points all day but most of the CDIs I have had were either stock and in no need of retiming or specific aftermarket.
I am assuming I am going to have to get a timing light but thats no thing considering auto zone loans them out for free but anyone want to give me a ball park on the timing spot?
