Moped Army

I recently bought a 1976 batavus Va (20 mph edition) and am having a hard time finding parts for it.It runs but it is slower than my mountain bike. Is there a more popular brand of engine than the Laura that it has?I would like to get something that mounts up with little or no modifications and can be upgraded performance-wise (big bore kit, racing carb, etc). thanks.
