A properly modified kittened moped engine will last longer than a poorly maintained stock motor. There are also many different levels of kits, some are barely more powerful than stock, and some will give you insane crank-bending power and absurd rpm. Will makes a good point; if you break something, you can replace it for relatively cheap, I mean, whole running mopeds can be had for a couple hundo any time. So I would actually encourage you to modify your ped until it breaks, then fix it and repeat.
